the software loads fine, I uploaded my photos to the keychain in update mode, the indicator light at the top is green... but when I unplug the keychain from my cpu it won't turn on!

I have the same problem, I thought it was b/c I got this as a gift last year and it sat in the box for a year before I got around to opening it. Since these are recent post, I gather my problem has nothing to do with age. Other than the battery might just be beyond charging.
Attached to the USB cable I get a green light. I can use all the functions. I did have to down load new software from a website for the item. The cable is fine, although I did try other USB cables to ensure it wasn't the cable.
It won't charge or hold a charge that is the bottom line.
Take the item back. It's cheap China **** as far as I'm concerned.

Exact same problem. I don't get the battery image showing up when it is supposedly charging either.

I have the sharper image Digital photo keychain and it worn't turn on unplugged. I down loaded the software and it is stuck in the updating mode. battery indicator light is green.
