Sharp Carousel microwave keypad problem

I have a Sharp Carousel microwave model R-330J and cleaned some insects out of the front display. To do this I accessed the display by pulling the assembly apart from the rear. I reassembled it but the ribbon connector from the keypad hs no connector and I assume is placed between the board that it needs to touch and the rubber guard from the display but I can't get it right. I have some keys on the touchpad active but they are not working corectly an I assume its to do with the way this ribbon connector is sitting as they keypad was not faulty prir to me pulling it apart.

Does anyone have a description of how to re-assemble this correctly?
everything else looks fine its just the keypad that isn't working.

Cheers

Trent

There should be on the end of the ribbon a copper colored part that will coincide with the same colored part in between the board or on one of the sides.

How do I increase the intensity of the green in the display on my Sharp Carousel R-1460A microwave oven?

This model does not have a brightness adjustment for the VFD display.

It may be a weak VFD tube due to aging or it may be that the rear of the display window and front of the display glass are very dusty.

Sometimes you can clean it inside to brighten it up.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you can detach the keypad connector (as per attached photo) then remove the control panel screws.

Be careful not to crack the glass display when handling it, or it's a goner.

Then you can use a soft cloth (not a paper towel) and a mild cleaner (not ammonia-based) to clean the front surface of the VFD display glass and the rear side of the clear bezel (display window) that's attached to the keypad.

Some connectors have a lock.

positivelock.jpgIf that cleaning didn't help, then you have a weak VFD.

We can replace yours for $74.95. Details are here.

The problem is in the keypad control board and must be replaced, the part alone is at least $97.00, priced more than some microwave ovens.

Sharp Carousel Microwave - R1481 keypad doesn't work

No! I'am afraid not, the problem is in the keypad control board, the whole assembly must be replaced, the part alone will cost around $100.00 or more depending on make and model.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

If you decide to send yours in for repair, here is the info you need:

We have a service / repair manual for a similar model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

It should be similar enough to give you safety info and similar step by step help in disassembly info.

Most computers will open this document automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader.

We would really need the front door panel assembly (which contains the keypad, display board and connecting cable) as well as the power board to which the cable connects, as shown in the attached sample photos.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

First check all door switches are properly working. If they are ok , the defect may be in the key pad. You need to replace the key pad.

Sharp Carousel Model R9H84B

I've attached the portion of the manual which shows how to lock & unlock this model.

If that doesn't work, unplug the oven for one minute, plug it back in aga9in, then try again.

If it still doesn;t work, then your keypad has failed, and they are no longer available for these model, so the oven would have to be retired.

Good luck.
