Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller

Left thumb stick squeaks(?)

So i just got a brand new controller and a day or two after use i noticed the left stick squeaks - but only when moved around the 3 o'clock position, and only when it goes from that extreme back to the neutral position.

in other words it only squeaks when the stick's position travels from hard east (if you wanna think in those terms), passing the central (neutral) spot of the stick.

as you can imagine it's really annoying, since you use that stick to move around in any game, and id rather not have to avoid right turns.

should i take the controller apart or is this something i can approach externally with wd40 or something? thanks for the help.

Analog stick are doing the opposite of what they should

I had this problem also on my sons xbox.. You must go into profile and then edit the settings.. In the default game setting you select the actions tba and have movement set as the left thumb stick.. His was set to the right thumb stick.. All sorted now.

My left analog stick wont let me move up or down but i can move side to side.

Take your controller apart and clean the contacts on the analog stick. Use a contact cleaner or rubbing alcohol. If it doesn't work it is probably a bad solder joint. Probably easier to buy a new controller. You can get one from ebay for like $30-$35.

The game controls on the left stick function the same as the right?

The left stick and right stick operate independantly. What they do would vary by game. For most first person shooters, the default is for the left stick to control looking left/right and moving. The other stick would control the other 2 (view up down/ moving on other axis).
If this was a help please give me 4 thumbs up as I am trying to build up my rep on this site!

Have taken the controller apart once before since my buttons were a bit loose (that was fixed) and now my analog sticks squeak and are a bit rough to use. Even when not touching them they are also off...

that's normal wear and tear. best off buying a new one. usually the left goes out first. it's a pain trying to unsolder and resolder new analog sticks. trust me i've tried and i;m a pro at soldering. if the leads don't come out right away after a few tries, everithing starts to fall apart. like i said. you're better off with a new one. sorry

Right Joystick. . .

I had this same problem with my 360 controller (after modding it, but the solution should be the same..) If you pull up on any 360 joystick it will stick the same way.

The quickest fix would be to take some sandpaper on the inside of where the joystick touches the controller shell, sand it down just enough so the joystick is moving smoothly.

More professional ways would be to cut the little piece of metal that sticks out and goes into the joystick. Just a very small amount, too much will make it hard to press the right thumbstick button.
You could also try some old fashioned grease, just a little bit on the inside, nothing noticeable from the outside.

Also make sure the controller is put back together right, I've taken apart many 360 controllers and sometimes joysticks stick when there's a wire in the wrong place and the shell won't close all the way. (The rumble motors particularly).
Hope this helped!
