PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour Microphone stopped working

We used our new ps3 game system and our new guitar hero world tour complete band setup, for the first time, yesterday... and after an hour or so of playing, the microphone suddenly stopped working. We checked all the connections, made sure they were solid, and tried again. No luck. We ended up boxing the complete game back up, and returning it, in exchange for another one. when we set everything up again, our ps3 wasn't working properly... so you guessed it, back in the box it went, and we were off to the store, again, to exchange the PS3, now. Thinking we finally had it figured out, and seeing that the game was playing properly on the system... we began to "rock out" again... although, without our lead singer! Why does the mic not seem to be working anymore? The frustrating thing, is that it DID work, once. Anyone else out there experiencing this? Better yet, anyone out there know what we need to do to fix this? (with all the exchanges, We're guessing it must boil down to simple "user error" at this point, but we just don't know...) Everything else seems to be functioning properly, at this time.

Bought ours today. Worked for less than an hour, then stopped. Same story. Checked connections, reset audio levels, nothing. Don't know what to do.

Nothing to offer here other than another version of the same story. Contacted Red Octane support to complete a warranty replacement request, but that requires a serial number...unfortunately, they couldn't tell me where the serial number for the microphone is. Tried to use the serial number from the guitar but it was invalid. Mine also worked for about the first hour, then suddenly stopped...hasn't worked since. I tried setting it up in the PS3 accessories as an audio device but it didn't recognize it. Luckily, I have a Logitech USB headset laying around...plugged it in, got the PS3 to recognize it, tested the input and used it for the game no problem. Haven't tried it for extensive periods of time, but it at least seems to NOT be the console (probably not user error on your part either! :-)

We bought the World Tour also and the first time, the drums didn't work after one use. We took it back and got a new one. We used the new one a couple times and now the mic doesn't work and the drums are locking up. I wish I still had the box because it was very expensive and we are not happy with it at all.

Loved this game and the mic it came with for a few weeks. Now it's not working at all no matter what I try. Is there another Mic we can use or install so we can buy it seperately? Everything else works great but I need a Mic alternative now.

I know it's frustrating but here goes:

  1. Get a PS3 camera (PLAYSTATION EYE - is what mine says on the back). Not sure if it HAS to be the one from Sony (Playstation Eye) or if any other will work, but my PS3 camera from Sony I bought did work perfectly for this "crack"
  2. Unplug the Guitar Hero microphone and set it off to the side somewhere. IT MUST BE UNPLUGGED FROM THE PS3 FOR THIS TO WORK
  3. Go into the Guitar Hero game and plug in your PS3 camera, the blue light on the camera will come on
  4. Now plug in the Guitar Hero microphone
  5. Now go to the training mode, or start a band, or whatever you want and you will see that the vocals are enabled
  6. Simply unplug your PS3 camera and you can use the microphone that came with Guitar Hero, like you're supposed to be able to
I know this is a BAD, BAD, BAD experience for you to go through, but I think it had something to do with PS3 system updates after they released all the hardware and software for Guitar Hero III. Hopefully you didn't return all your gear already...

I don't work for Sony, I'm an electrical engineer/gamer hobby enthusiast.

Hope that helps!

I've had the same problem, the guitars for this guitar hero are terrible, they were apparently rushed by Sony; ive researched the problem and apparently you can get a "dongel" or something, it's supposed to keep it connected, look into one.

Guitar hero world tour, Ps3, when the wireless reciever is plugged in the guitar shows two lights on the strum bar...the ps button works and the controller allows me to quit the game/shut down system etc...

It seems that the recent PS3 Firmware update (2.80) reassigns your controllers. In order to fix this (I just did it 20 minutes ago and all is fine) is:
Go to the XMB "Settings" Menu.
Open "Accessory Settings"
Using the controller you want to reassign, open "Reassign Controllers"
Scroll to the number you want that controller to be (1,2,3 or 4)
You are good to go!

Thanks to the Phone Help at Activision for this fix!

Guitar hero world tour for ps3

i had the same problem but with trial and error i came up with a soulution
1. Turn on the Playstation 3
2. Plug the dongle for the drum set into an open port on the PS3, the light will begin to flash slowly.
3. Hold down the button (where the light is flashing) on the dongle until it begin flashing very rapidly. Release the button and the light continues to flash rapidly.
4. Hold down the PS button on the drum set until the red light starts flashing rapidly.
5. Within a few seconds you will get a solid light on both the Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Set and the Playstation 3.

Guitar hero world tour guitar fault

Go to the redoctane website and start a RMA warranty replacement process. You can find the site by typing: . Click on the Guitar Hero World Tour site. Then click on support. it should direct you to redoctane's site who manufactures the units. There has been a rash of bad strum bars on the World Tour game. It took almost 2 months to get my new guitar from them. But it was worth the wait! The new guitar is sooo awesome! Good Luck! If it has been over 90 days, you have went over the warranty period.
