Do not know how to get the wireless to connect it will tell me it needs a security key code and I do not know what that it is or how to get it.

in order to connect you have to know the router key. If dont you wont be able to. anyway you can get it by editing router configuration (Usually box router included software). Here you can assign a new password.

Need to secure my wireless router. do not know how?

Go to your wireless router software and click on the security setting section. Create a WEP key by providing a secret code or password that restricts access to the network. (to get access type http://192.168.0.1) Step2Be sure to choose a key with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. These types of codes are the most difficult to break. Step3Click on the wireless connections options on your wireless router software. Find your router from the list of found servers and click on security settings. Step4Add the WEP key that you used on the main router settings to the wireless device. A lock symbol should now appear next to the name of your wireless router from the list of available routers. Step5Access the Internet via your router using only devices that have the WEP installed in their wireless settings. Without it, they will not be able to complete the connections to the network. This information must be added to all wireless devices that you plan to access via the router.

We just got wireless internet this past year at our house and when my dad set it up he forgot to write down the password which lets you onto the internet. So now we are able to log on through the computer...

to set the wireless settings you need to use a computer that is connected to your router or the computer that is working on your router wirelessly.

access the setup page of your router using IE on the address bar type the ip of your router, by default it is 192.168.1.1, username=admin and password=password, once your on the setuppage go to wireless settings option on the left pane. you will be able to see the wireless security there.

the reason why you dont know the wireless security for the old computers its because once you typed the security key in the computer will remembers it and save it on the system.

I am trying to set up a password for my belkin router when I go wireless

its the wireless that you need to secure. Open a browser and go to the router's IP (e.g. 192.168.1.1) If you dont know the IP, go to Start> Run . type"CMD" hit enter > type "ipconfig" hit enter, the router's IP will be Default Gateway: 192.168.X.X.

click on security in left column,
default login is blank, just hit submit

security mode= wpa-wsp (no server)
authentication= wpa-wsp wpa2-psk
encryption= tkip+aes
pre shared key = (create password)
click apply changes.
(only those who know key can use network)

I have a linksys wireless G router. My exhusband put a password on it and I do not know the password. My wireless card on my laptop went out and I had to buy a new one. Now I need to have the password in...

I'm guessing you don't have the key to join the wireless network. If you have an ethernet cord you can hook your laptop directly into one of the numbered ports into the back of your router. After it's hooked up open a web browser such as internet explorer or safari. In the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 and a password dialog should pop up and the default router username is admin and password is admin. If thosed don't work try either admin blank or blank admin. After that you should have a page with tabs at the top click on the one that says wireless, then there should be a sub-tab called security that has the wireless key there.

If the admin password doesn't work there is a small red button on the back of the router that you can press with a pen and hold down for 15 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults that means no wireless password and that the wireless netwok will go back to the default name "linksys" . Though if you choose this route you might look into putting a password on your wireless depending on how crowded your neighborhood is. If you need any more help drop me a line on this question.

I want to connect a Wii gaming system to the internet and it asks for a password or WEP key which I do not have. How can I get connected?

The WEP key is the security key that was set up in the wireless router or access point. It will be the same as your wireless WEP key for your laptop or PC. I assume you have access to your router admin and therefore shouild be able to either recover it or change it to something you know.

I have a F5D9230-4 and a few months ago got a WII. I've tried to get the WII set up to go wireless thru my router to their website. It accepts everything but when it tries a connect test it fails and...

  1. Turn of wireless security in the router, see if you can get the Wii to work UNSECURE.
  2. If the Wii, connects with security turned off, then enable security on the router (WPA is recommended) and a 10 digit key (I use an onld phone number from my childhood)
  3. Go back to internet settings on the Wii, select the wireless configuration you were using, click advanced, and enter the WPA key.
  4. Test connection Wii should work
