Question about ATI Graphics Cards

Catalyst Control Permission Problem

I have ATI X1400M in my laptop.
One day I updated this display driver to 8.512,
but whenever I start my computer this permission problem keeps
popping-up in my screen.
It says something like ''I don't have a permission to change settings in Catalyst Control. Contact your administrator for any further help''
Then I rollback my driver back to original version, but could not seem to fix this problem.

• Some OpenGL applications may cause the OS to stop responding on some
ATI Radeon HD 45xx adapters
• On some configurations, the display driver may stop responding when resolution

Any idea?

Do you have installed the ATI CATALYST CONTROL CENTER? Thats ATI utility that controls the card, it usually places a red ATI icon besides the clock in windows. Double clicking the icon you enter the catalyst control center, use it in advanced mode and go to the DISPLAY OPTIONS menu on the left column. In there you'll find a FORCE TV DETECT option you can enable. Then in DISPLAYS MANAGER menu you can configure what you want to do with your displays with numerous option that adapt to any arrangement.

As always keep your drivers up to date... If your card isn't a true ATI, just a radeon built by someone else, then you might need to download the drivers from that manufacturer and use their utility. Or maybe you can force install the original ATI drivers for your card model.

You should always choose the newest one. There is no reason it should not work. Try updateing all your programs and drivers.

ATI Radeon IGP 340mM/345M display driver or software needed..

Go here:
ATI Catalyst 8.2 - ATI Radeon - XP

Then, near the bottom of the page, click on:
Individual driver download packages, ATI Multimedia Center, Avivo™, and Korean full package and download the Catalyst Control Centre package (download 2 of 3)

Here is a direct link, but i don't know if it will re-main active:
AMD GAME! Drivers and Utilities
Then click on "Catalyst Control Center (English)"

This package will only install the ATi CCC. I personally have found that the ATI CCC doesn't like older cards, but some people have had luck getting it to work. If it doesn't work, you'll either have to find an older Catalyst Control Center, such as the one bundled with the Catalyst 4.10, or go back to using an old version of ATi Catalyst Control Panel.
