From the device manager, delete the entry for the DVRW and then reboot or rescan for defvices. You might also check LiteOn's web site for a newer driver. If no luck, see if you can install it in another PC. If no luck there, the unit is just flaky and should be replaced.

My atapi dvd w dh16w 1p lg12 it wont let me burn

Why not? Does it have a DvD Burner installed? Have you burned in the past on it? What error message if any are you getting?

Look on the side of the dvd drive's door where you place the dvd and see if you see DvDrw or DvD-RW or DvD-Rewritable. If it says DvD-ROM then it is not a dvd burner. You can also click Start/My Computer and look at the DvD Drive to see if you see DvDrw or DvD-Rw (make sure nothing is in the dvd drive to check it).

No video output from atapi dvd rw after OS reinstall, cd rw ok

>> VGA controller (vga compatible) error in the device manager

Windows has not found a "good" device-driver for the "integrated" video-controller on your motherboard; it is using the "generic" adapter.

So, trying to download the "SIS Mirage Graphics" software is an attempt by Windows to download a "specific" device-driver that matches your video-adapter hardware.

You might try installing an add-in video-card, to see if Windows will install the correct device-driver, and still boot-up correctly.

Otherwise, take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting about your boot-up problem.

CD drive not working

Based on your indication the CD drive is clean, and you know the cables are attached to it, inside the computer. (Flat ribbon IDE interface cable, and 4-pin Molex connector power cable)

1.Go to Device Manager

Left-click on Start. Right-click on My Computer. Go down, and Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Hardware tab. Go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.

Left-click on the + sign to the left of, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the CD drive.

(Example: Lite On DVDRW LH-20A1P.
eMachines Support indicates the T5212 has a DVD burner drive, and a CD drive. Right-click on the CD drive name))

In the drop down list, Left-click on Properties.
Left-click on the Driver tab
Go below, and Left-click on the Update Driver 'button'. Now go below, and Left-click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Do Not Restart. We need a 'Hard Shut Down'.
Wait 1 minute, turn your computer on.

Still doesn't work?
Let's play hard ball.

2.Go back to Device Manager. Left-click on the + sign to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the name of the CD drive. Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Driver tab.
This time go down, and Left-click on the Uninstall 'button'. Go below, and Left-click on OK

There will be a Microsoft 'squawk box' that comes up. "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
Left-click on OK. (It IS okay!)

Close all windows. Shut down your computer normally. (Again, we need a 'Hard Shut Down'. To Restart a computer is known as a 'Soft Shut Down')

Wait 1 minute. Turn your computer on.
After Windows loads all the way, and all of your Start Menu programs have loaded, you should see a pop-up out of your system tray. (Bottom of Windows desktop screen)

"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XYZ CD drive". (XYZ = the CD drive name)

No still?

The driver for your CD drive, is located within the Windows XP operating system on your computer.
If your CD drive does not work now, I suggest it has failed.

Drives such as Optical drives, and Harddrives, are mechanical devices. Their 'Lifespan', is rated in so many hours of usage. Your CD drive may be at the end of it's 'Lifespan'.

Hello, I've just purchased the following hardware - LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H optical player. However, there was no software or instruction booklet with said product, & I can only play DVD's & CD's,...

You will need some kind of burning software such as Nero or Roxio. If you want to try some freeware, follow the following link, http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/dvdcdburning.shtml. Much of the software is on a free trial basis, but you can continue looking for additional freeware.

My DVD/CD+RW will not recognize CD or DVD (Lite-On DVDRW SHW-H65)

It sound like your DVD/CD+RW has a problem with the read/write head. So u can use some cleaning liquid to clean the head. After cleaning hope it will work on CD. Most of the time DVD are not played or read properly when you eject the disk while in use.

My Lite-on DVD RW-SHW-160-P65 ATA Device does not work after I install Window Vista I had windows XP BEFORE AND NOW IT does not find the driver for it or will not open make it work I have rolling it back...

Have you checked the computer manufacturer's website for drivers?

You can also try this:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close.

If you delete the information in the Control Panel and restart your computer, it will look for the driver by itself.
