Are you using an indoor telescopic whip antenna? those only work for close stations, you might need an outdoor antenna,as high as possible to increase the range, or at least as high as the nearby obstructions.

Where, in Canada, can I purchase a Uniden Bearcat Cellular Scanner- capability to receive digital cellular frequencies?

in both Canada and the US intercepting (receiving) cell phone signals is unlawful and as such no scanners are manufactured that are capable of receiving and decoding these signals.

I am in canada i live in abbotsford bc v2t4l8 the police have gone digital there is no signel i bought a 100 channel it is now usless what ami to do g smith

  • Hi,

  • Well as a HAM I program repeater frequencies that are far away and run them through the scanner and when they are picked up then the conditions are open from that direction to work other frequencies.

  • You can't use that for the local police if they have gone digital but there may be some other things you can use it for around your area (if they are not digital.)

  • You can also put it on E-Bay as many many places are not yet digital. Like where I live, I still use a triple trunking scanner. So many would be interested in that scanner. You can recover some of the money anyway,

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

My pro 2018 scanner wont pick anything up where i live could there be something wrong with the scanner or do i need a better antenna i live in holmes county ohio

First try picking up the NOAA Weather broadcasts. They're transmitted on seven frequencies (162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, 162.550) and at least one should be active in your area. To check reception, just press the WX key on your scanner. If you can pick up one or more of the frequencies, you'll know that the scanner is functioning properly. If not, your scanner is likely in need of repairs - a questionable move due to its age.

If the scanner is functioning (receiving the weather band), try a quick RESET. use a paperclip or pen point to press the recessed RESET button on the back of the scanner.

Make sure that you have programmed local active frequencies into the scanner. For a comprehensive database, and a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

After all of the above, if you are receiving weather but no local transmissions, I recommend that you try an external antenna.

If you need the manual for your scanner, you can download and print it, at no cost, here:

It just scans and scans it never picks anything up. No clue how to work this scanner or where to get codes for it. When you turn it on, it just scans thru all the channels but doesn't seem to pick anything...

Sounds like either your squelch is set too high or you don't have the proper frequencies for your area programmed into the scanner. When it starts scanning turn the squelch down gradually until the scanning stops and you hear noise, then turn up slowly until it starts to scan again. If you still don't pick up anything, you probably need to reprogram the frequencies. For a list of active frequencies and systems in your area visit
www.RadioReference.com
or

In case you need it, here's a link to the manual for your scanner.

If this response helps, please take a moment to post a rating for me. "Very Helpful" would be appreciated.

Where to find Radio frequencies In Canada BC also when i enter the numbers how do i know that they are going to work I am very new to this?

Here's a link to the frequency database for British Columbia:

As far as individual frequencies "working," that will depend greatly on your location, altitude, and antenna (an outdoor antenna will pull in a lot more signals than the antenna that came with the set). It's basically trial and error.

Welcome to the hobby.
