If your TV has a picture but no sound, start by checking the obvious such as whether the mute button is on or whether the volume has been turned all the way down.

Next check your cable connections and make sure everything is plugged in tightly.

Change channels to make sure that it's not a technical difficulty with your TV service provider or TV station. Call your service provider to see if they're experiencing issues with their audio.

Try reconnecting the HDMI cable after you turn off the TV.

Make sure your remote is on the correct input, and see if you have sound while playing a DVD or video game.

For a simple troubleshooting checklist, see No sound on TV and get more details on some simple fixes for this problem. I hope this helps!

I have a 55 inch JVC tv,today the screen went black but still have sound, also the buttons on the back wont work, but the channel down button turns it on and off? What is wrong with it?

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary..

Why is my TV picture dim

Hello David
It sounds that the back light inverter board, and back light CCFL lamps to your TV need to be checked. It will be best to contact any service technician, because to check its back light CCFL lamps, you must disassemble the display panel, a very skilled work indeed. If you are sound in electronics, you can check it. If you wish to know more http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ check this link. It has details. Pull up older posts there by its left side bar, or see it in 'Timeslide' option.

I have a VIZIO VF550M LCD T.V. I was watching T.V. and it went off and won't turn back on. What can I do to fix it?

Outside of leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes to do a reset, there's not much you can do. It sounds as thought the set needs repair. Sounds like you have an issue with either the power supply or main board

I have a sony KP5375 TV and the screen flashed and went dark. Now it won't turn on and there is a electrical smell coming from the TV. Reset doesn't work. Does this sound like it is more th

yes bulbs dont smell unless they pop plus its 3 bulbs in there, plus the tv would still have power/standby lights, and it's not that type of smell, replace the bulb but im sure this will not fix the problem, also my experience with dlp set it is often not worth repair, good luck you need more help or question just ask good luck

My Vizio VX37L HDTV won't turn on. Was watching it one day & it turned off by itself. Replaced power supply with new one with no luck. Orange light comes on but will not turn white.

reset the tv with the tv off, but plugged in hold down the soarce botton on the tv for 5 seconds it should click on and work. if not then there may be curcuit board issues. i found the same tv on the side of the road as somewone was throwing it out, it was leaning aganst their trash can. i brought it home. plugged it in and it went on and inediatly went to the orange vizio light. i rest it and it's been perfect ever since is my comoute monitor now...good luck i hope that fixes it for you..

My Vizio p50hdtv herd spark, and TV went black, no picture not sound

There's a good chance the pop you heard was a failing electrolytic capacitor (they POP when they blow sometimes) either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the unit will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors, amplifiers, computer power supplies and motherboards, and other electronic equipment.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
A great parts source is Digi-Key, and you can order the parts online at www.digikey.com
They typically cost under a dollar a piece plus a flat shipping rate.
The parts usually arrive one business day later.
If you watch the third video, you will see that even someone with no soldering experience can perform these repairs as demonstrated by the woman in the video.

I've owned for approx 3 yrs. Today I was watching a show on my Panasonic TH-50PZ80U and all the sudden the sound went away. From the lowest volume setting to the highest, no noise at all...Please...

Hello!
First move: unplug your broadcast provider's box, wait for a minute, then plug it back into power source. I mean: leave all the connections intact, just unplug from power source. It might be just power cord or power adapter. If that's not the case, please do the same with TV. Unplug it from wall outlet, wait a minute, plug it back in. It's a next step, if your "box" won't take care of the problem. If that won't take care of the issue, refer to owner's manual for "reset" procedure. Worst case scenario: you might need to replace main board inside or your TV.
good luck,
Thanks,
Alex.
