Whirlpool duet electric dryer timer stopped

My Whirlpool duet electric dryer sometimes will stop the timer in the middle of the drying cycle. i.e. The timer stops counting down. The buzz goes off when the timer stops. The minutes left are random.

Dryer counts down for 5 minutes, then skips countdown, like from 45 min. to 29 min. May go back to 36 min. then stops, indicating cycle over when it's been only 5 to 7y minutes. Does not go through any of the cycles.

I will start the dryer on a normal cycle which is for 34 minutes. In 5 minutes time, the dyer has jumped to 20 minutes of drying time left. In 10 minutes time, the dryer stops as if it had actually dried the clothes for 34 minutes. the buzzer does not sound to alert me the cycle has finished.

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Whirlpool dryer doesnt heat, time and shut off when you open the door

if you have it on time dry and it doesn't count down the timer is bad but it should stop when you open the door unless you have a broken door switch too, just open the door and push in on the switch with your finger,it should make a clicking sound,if not the door switch is also broke,if you have the timer on auto or more or less then it won't move without heat.on auto the heat comes on when the dryer reaches temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance a little, then the heat starts again and the timer stops,it will do this until the clothes are dry by using a sensor instead of time.

I am having the same problem. Dried towels last night. This morning, I loaded it, turned it on, it did not lock the door or start drying (spinning) but the timer started counting down. I pressed Cancel twice, unplugged it for a few minutes then tried again. Problem still exists. Any suggestions?

Dryer stopping in middle of cycle but timer continues to run.

oK " It's your timer, it has to be replaced

it's not going threw all it cycles, will start but will not finish

not a big job, unscrew plate on back at the top you will see
timer , take it out and replace it

( can not stress enough that you have to unplug the electrical cord from the wall socket before working on a dryer or any appliance )

Dryet

Shelly on some of the older models they used a inline resistor on the dryers timer. It looks like a inline fuse comming off the timer. If it goes bad the timer will not stop. Check the attachment. Cost around 17.00, Catriver, post back. Part number 3401076
