Toshiba Will Not Reinstall Windows

Hey There.

Yesterday I went to re format my laptop and deleted all the partitions on the drive, including the recovery partition. When the vista install reached the last step it just sat there and did nothing. I think the problem is that we used a CD that did not come with the computer (the computer came with nothing) and to reformat you need to use the recovery partition!

What Now?

    Hey There

We are using the vista format tool and so there is no quick format.

It formats the disc ok but when It gets past extracting the files and says it is completing setup it just does nothing.

I think we need the recovery Partition

  • Steven Dec 26, 2008

Where did you get your copy of vista? is it yours did you borrow it?

lets try to reformat one more time. your recovery partition is gone now so make sure you format the entire disk. when it asks you to confirm erasing formatting etc. don't choose the quick format, if it asks. do it the slow way, less chance of error.

let me know

ok so is vista asking you if you want to make a recovery partition when you go to format?
if so go ahead and do it. if this is the problem, once you are in vista we can remove/reduce the partition if you want more disk space.

go ahead and fromat that way and let me know what happened

  • Brian Ebeling Dec 26, 2008

well when you formatted you erased your recovery partition so unfortunately there is nothing to get back. Just have to figure out why Vista wont install so we can get you up and running. Wondering if the copy of Vista is legit.

if you boot without the cd right now what comes up as far errors or anything?

Help how to format lenovo ideapad s300 in windows 7

If you want to format your entire hard drive (and reinstall windows) You'll need to insert the appropriate windows disk. If you want to reinstall 7, insert your windows 7 disk and boot off of the disk (When booting, it should start by showing a screen that says "Press any key to boot from CD..." and you can just press a key on your keyboard. From there, follow the on screen instuctions. When you get to the drive partitioning step, select your hard drive and partition you want to format. You can delete the partition you have and make a new one if you want to totally clean the computer (WARNING: This will literally delete everything on your computer. Everything). From there you continue and finish the setup (it may run for a while). And you have a fesh new hard drive and operating system install.

How to restore sandisk from Factory Image Recovery on Dell Inspiron 1545

Hey Pam,

The factory image on the 1545 is accessed by starting the computer and press the F8 key. Choose the option that reads Repair Your Computer and follow the prompts. If this does not work you will need to manually reinstall Windows. Below is a link that will provide information on manually installing Windows.

How to Restore or Reinstall Windows on your Dell Computer
Dell Factory Image Restore The Dell Factory Image Restore tool replaces PC Restore. Access it from the F8 boot menu.
This utility formats the operating system hard drive partition prior to restoring the factory image. This means data on that partition is deleted and cannot be recovered.
If the customer creates a second partition with a third-party utility, Dell Factory Image Restore is not affected as long as the image partition is not removed.

If you need any further assistance you can email me from my email address listed below.

My Daughter has a Toshiba Satellite # S1061 where the CD/DVD drive does not work and error Code 39. Not sure how to restore the drivers since the CD/DVD drive does not work.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
The way to solve this kinda issue is to reinstall the operation system and during installation the driver will be automatically installed for this device ..
Use a recovery partition if you have one ...(most newly laptops came with such partition ...and the way to engage it is to press the F 11 on start like when you get to BIOS ..but this time will show the boot menu ...and choose the recovery partition ..)
Be sure you save all important files from the C drive .. into another partition including the files from My document ..cause on re-installation C partition is usually deleted and formatted..
If you do not have a recovery partition will need a bootable cd with a operation system installation on it ...and after you set the boot order in bios to boot first from cd ..(save settings with F10 after ) ..insert the disk into the laptop and restart ...confirm booting from cd and follow the installation instructions..

How to format my laptop

Normal 0

To format the hard disk and re-install Windows use the Windows installation CD, and the Windows Product Code on the label at the bottom of your laptop.

Boot up using the Windows installation CD and follow the instructions.

One of the installation early steps, the option to delete the existing partition, then create a new partition and then a full format on this partition (don't do a quick format) and complete the Windows installation.

Next install all of the Toshiba's computer/laptop device drives.

Next install the Windows service packs (SP2 & SP3 for XP, SP1 & SP2 for Vista)

Next Activate Windows via the Internet or by phone.

Next install your programs - Microsoft Office etc.
Next click on Start - Programs - Windows Update (for the latest updates).

R600 - hard drive light flashes at a constant rate

The simplest solution to your problem would be to reinstall Windows Vista after deleting the old version.

Be sure to boot your computer with the DVD in the drive and when it asks if you want to remove the partition, answer YES. Then put in a new partition, format the drive and reload Vista by rebooting your system with Vista in your DVD drive.

You may lose your sound drivers but they can be downloaded from the Toshiba web site.

Just as an afterthought, you should have at least 1 Gig of RAM installed.

Good luck,

I Have Windows Server on my Toshiba Laptop....

If it came with this operation system ..the chances are that the recovery partition on it the same ..but I'm not that sure..anyway ..will be an operation system and you will adapt ..
the idea to run a server os on laptop is strange ..but not important ..
First to do to press F11 ..and see if you have a recovery resource (partition ) ..already on your hard drive ..In this case just choose a reinstall of the operation system ..and will load it again with all the drivers and so ..Your files from C drive will be lost ..cause it is formatting the C drive during the operation ..
If you want the files..(i repeat only ones on C drive will be lost ..this includes desktop documents ..and program files ..all other drives will be intact )
you will need a windows server operation system and try to boot from disk and choose to repair ..or reinstall but not deleting the files..or ..reinstall other operation system ..and choose the same partition for it ..(C drive ) ..but choose to not format it ..and keep the files..Once ready get in all files you may need ..and install it again clean with the formatting of the drive so that you have a fresh start ..
I repeat need a boot-able disk with the operation system for to do that ..It may be windows server ..or other windows..but you have to choose with care ..the actions ..
If you need some data from it ..and you do not want to take risks ..I suggest to use another computer ..and connect the hard disk on it ..(it may not be a laptop ..just buy an adapter and connect it either with a usb or so . for laptop hard disks ..there are some rack connectors available ..just for to do that ..just ask for them to the computer store..and mention what you want to do ..
Once connected you may retrieve the files and after that run a clean install for the operation system or run the recovery partition if you have on e..
let me know what you've managed to do and I will see from there..

Can't format my laptop cause there is a missing Temp Folder

If you boot from an XP or vista install disk and select the option to delete the existing partition it should format ok. Be sure to not delete any factory restore partition that may exist on your hard drive. When you are at the partition delete screen you may see several partitions, just delete the one that is about the full size of your hard drive, any smaller one will be a diagnostics or retore partition. I hope this helps.
