Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

PT 47 convergence IC's? box? both?

Well there seem to be a lot of people recently with the same problem as mine so I've got an idea as to what it is. I've done the "POWER/ACTION self-check reset" the unplugging and found the tech menu (which was impossible to read on the screen so couldn't do anything with it). The self check tells me all systems are OK. The problem is with the green when trying to set the convergence using Convergence 1 the horizontal line in the "big green cross" is high and can be moved but not to where it should be it also is a bit wavy, the vertical line is a bit distorted at the top and progresses to not even making it to the bottom of the screen. Moving on to the next screen (lining up red, blue, green in the middle of the screen) the green cross is high to the point where I can line up red and blue and the very top of them is only the bottom of the green horizontal line. Convergence 2 is fairly impossible to deal with maybe getting one cross to line up if any. Needless to say the picture has everything with a headache inducing "green ghost" effect. This would lead me to believe I need to replace my IC's. But I also have an "hourglass effect" going on with the green. The bottom of the screen when watching something has a curved band of green lines above this is where the "ghosting" comes in below it things are clear and oviously just the reds and blues. The top of the screen has a bit of this but it's not as pronounced. I saw this problem elsewhere up here and the suggestion was the digital convergence box. Don't know which one I should look into first so any help would be appreciated (and yes I'd love to have the tech manual emailed to me!!). Also would appreciate the best place to look into getting the parts needed to fix this up. Thank You Very much!!

Thank you joshv one more question if I could. The IC's are 392-110's but I've been reading that may people "upgrade" 110's with 180's. They seem to be a little less prone to failure due to heat etc. if this is true sounds like a good idea for a few more bucks. Also have read that if you replace the IC's its a good idea to replace the fusible resistors around them because they are likely to fail if the chips fail. True?

Always suspect the IC's first, digital convergence prblems are actually pretty rare IC's go everyday. I'd check partsore .com Generics usually work fine, they are probably STK392-110's but check to make sure.

the 180's are rated a little higher and what your saying is true in theory but I have had some trouble a few times where they just don't seem to work, they will either go again fast or not let the TV align quite right. So I don't mess with trying to sub, but I do this job at least a couple of times a week it would probably be fine in your tv. check the fuseable and resistors, they're either bad now or will be fine in the future

Have a Panasonic PT-47WX53 47. It's probably as old as when it came out. I've messed around with the convergence before but it was never un-fixable. Then a couple a days ago I came into the ro

yes and also possibly the low ohm resistors. You can get the PT53WX53 convergence kit which fits your model from which has the 2 ICs and associated resistors plus the CD with repair instructions.

PT-47WX53G wont turn on 3 blinking lights from the power area.

If the red power LED is blinking 3 times--it is most likely a shorted convergence IC---the only way you can be sure is to remove the light box--I can tell you how by email--and unsolder the two STK-392-110 ic chips----they are on two heat sinks made of aluminum next to each other; if you open the back cover and find them you will see about a dozen blue(light blue) resistors marked 2.2 ohm----if any of those are some what white in the middle(discolored) they are gone and the set will never adjust until you replace them and the two convergence IC chips---What I usually do in this case is remove the light box and unsolder both IC chips and plug it in and turn it on---if the set now comes on and stays on--I replace the IC chips and adjust the set---I have done hundreds of these sets---3 blinks is almost always a bad convergence IC--if this was helpful give me a vote---AND IF YOU NEED DIRECT ASSISTANCE contact me at:

Panasonic Projection Covergence problem

I would guess that the IC has failed again. Can you post the number marked on the IC here? If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. If you can get the part number, I may be able to provide a different replacement that will last longer.
