Question about Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC

Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-810 I/O Device Error with most DVDs Cds

This has been a four-year problem. While under warranty I would send it out, they would say it was fixed. I would play about two DVDs and then the I/O errors would start again. Even the Recovery Disk would not often work.

Now that it is out of warranty AND the Matshita DVD is still not working, is it worth replacing the DVD Rom? And if so, with what system?

It almost makes no sense to put in the same part since from what I am seeing on the other postings, the Matshita DVD Rom drive has a pretty bad track record in the Toshiba laptops. Any ideas? Have Portege M200 Tablet PC with WinXP Pro SP3.
Tried unsuccessfully to hook up Matshita DVD RAM UJ-810 USB2.0. Computer does not recognize its existence.

    I have the exact problem. Toshiba service said they would have to fix the DVD drive altogether.

We have had out Toshiba P25-S509 for a very long time. It's a great laptop and watching DVDs with a wide screen was great; That is, until the CD/DVD player was no longer recognized by the computer. We took it in (still under warranty) to have it fixed, only to not work again after a couple of months.

Now YEARS have gone by and I have bought another Toshiba (M305D-S4831) which is great unless you try to reboot and it doesn't fully start up. That's for another review, not this one... So, back to the P25-S509 and YEARS later. We just received two 1GB memory cards, which are being used to replace the "stock" two 256 MB memory cards. Well, the computer is MUCH FASTER and THE DVD PLAYER FINALLY WORKS!!! Woo-Hoo! $98.00 investment in memory cards saved up from ditching the older Toshiba.

Hope this review helps someone out there that might have had the same problem.

Why does my next book 8 tablet keep shutting off when charged


I personally would contact the Tech department of that company or find their own website as this may simply be a software issue.
There may be an update available.
Some Electronic devices have defalt timers which automatically timeout if the device is not touched and charging, you may need to look at the settings for the screen.

I have had to send my Presario Tablet back under the 2 year warranty as there was a fault with the motherboard . This was free of charge to me as the tablet was 18 months old.

If it doesn't turn on with a charged battery, you may have a broken logic board. If you're out of warranty, somebody has to open the device and replace the logic board. The part is available on ebay. On youtube you will find a guide on how to disassemble an Acer tablet. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there are third party Acer Tablet Repair Services.

Did you purchase an extended warranty for the device? If so, they should replace it for you with no additional charges. If not, then I would call their customer service and find out.

Depends on the warranty and how it broke. The one year warranty written on the box is from the manufacturer. You may or may not need your receipt. Call/email the manufacturer and ask about the warranty. If the warranty doesn't cover accidents, hopefully the device broke under normal use, and you'll tell support that when you contact them.

broken screens are not covered under the warranty.

You will need to have it repaired at your own cost.

Check if you have a tablet repair company in your area.

Device will not charge


Yes, all products that you buy have to be "fit for use". The 3 R's apply, repair, replace or refund. Under consumer rights law, they have to do this. Make sure you bring all packaging and receipts with you and speak to the shop manager. If you get no joy (they have to, by law, help you) report it to head office.

This requires you to do some "fancy foot work". You need to take several steps:
Step 1: Using a DVD Transfer Program on your PC, Import and convert the DVD to a format the Kindle can understand. I use: Amersoft DVD Ripper
Step 2: Once converted - transfer the converted DVD file to the Kindle
Step 3: Enjoy

Usually HPs are good with +R DVDs unless things have change over the last year or two.
