Dishwasher fills but doesn't spray

I have a brand new dishwasher. Unfortunately I bought it about October of 05 so it is out of warranty. I never even opened the box until about 2 weeks ago. It worked fine about 5 times and now it won't run a cycle. It fills with water just fine but then waits about 10 minutes or so then just pumps the water back out. It doesn't spray the dishes or even make a sound although the lights stay on. I called Sears and they won't do anything for me with out charging me full price even though its obvioulsy in new condition. Maybe its me but I thought they were supposed to work more than 5 times!!! Since I want to try to fix this myself where should I start? I'm good at fixing things so a little guidance should be all I need to figure it out. thanks!! Ron..

Well , I finally got a chance to check the wire. I tried unplugging and replugging in the connector a few times then I tried it again and it worked!! The plug wasn't making a good connection. I have used it 2 times now and it is working fine. Thanks for all the help!!! Thanks especially for getting my wife to calm down ;)

Ron, sounds like you are not getting power to the motor or the motor itself is bad. This model has a seperate drain motor which we know is working because it drains. Now this is for a model starting with 587. If you remove the toe panel you will see the wash motor on the left. It will have a harness that you can pull off. After the dishwasher fills you want to see if you have 120V going to the motor. Check it with a meter. If you have voltage there and the wash motor is not working, either it's bad or something is stopping the impeller. If you don't have voltage there then it's a problem with the control. You would want to make sure all the harness are connected. I'm hoping your model starts with 587. Otherwise this is all for back

How to repair or fix a Dishwasher if it doesn't wash well

A common cause of poor washing results is improper loading—dishes that block or impede the spray arm(s) or prevent the soap dispenser from opening. On the other hand, if your dishwasher has chronic problems with good washing, the problem may not be your dishwasher. A good first step is vary the amount of dishwasher detergent you're using and try switching brands.

Other possibilities: Your home’s water pressure may be too low, your water may be too hard, or the water temperature may not be hot enough.
In order for your dishwasher to fill to the appropriate level, water pressure should be from 20–120 pounds per square inch. If you suspect that your water pressure may be low, turn off all faucets or other users of water (such as washing machines and sprinklers) and then put a half-gallon jug under the kitchen faucet. Turn on the hot water full-blast. If the jug doesn’t fill within 14 seconds, your water pressure may be too low for proper dishwasher operation. Call your city water utility to discuss your options, or avoid drawing water elsewhere in the house or yard during dishwasher cycles.
The right amount of detergent to use depends on how large your load of dishes is and how hard your water is. Hardness is measured in grains of minerals—the more grains per gallon you have, the more detergent you’ll need. If your water has 12 grains or more of hardness, fill both dishwasher soap cups completely with detergent. If that doesn’t work, consider installing a water softener.
To check water temperature, hold a meat thermometer under the hot water faucet for two minutes; if it doesn’t register a minimum of 140 degrees F., turn up the temperature dial on your hot water heater. (However, if you have a newer dishwasher that heats the water internally, it isn’t necessary to turn up your hot water heater.)
If your dishwasher has worked fine in the past but suddenly your dishes aren’t clean after the dishwasher completes all cycles, listen to the spray arm(s) spinning inside during the wash cycle. If spinning poorly, wait for the machine to cool down, remove the spray arm(s) by unscrewing the hubcap(s), lifting the arm(s) off, and then cleaning out the spray holes in the spray arm(s) with a stiff piece of wire.

Why are two brand new dishwashers giving me the same error?

as it is under warranty I would have the service agent back again and this time either fix the machine properly or replace it under the terms of the warranty or get a refund of the purchase price for the machine
it is obviously not fit for the purpose if two machines do the same thing
one thing to be aware of, if the elements are not getting hot enough, it may be advisable to check the power voltage into the machine at the power point as the mains voltage may be too low for the elements.

Brand new from day 1 can hear water go in doesn't seem to fill long starts wash cycle not even a minute then stops drains then shuts off

Call where you purchased it and have them send out a service tech. Most appliances are under warranty for a year from purchase.

Just bought Mitsubishi WD-73740, I opened it from the box. And there is no picture. This is a brand new TV out of the box.

If brand new it is under warranty--get it fixed or if just purchased take back and either get an exchange or your money back.

Not sure why you are even here on the site but do not be tempted to tamper with a new set that does not work--will void any warranty etc.

My Bosch dishwasher fills with water but when it comes to the wash cycle it does nothing.

If your dishwasher is brand new, then call Bosch service as they can repair it under warranty.
