My mpc hard drive freezes

When i turn on the Mpc 4000, it activates the hard drive but after I attempt to load any thing or even save, it freezes and looses connection with the hard drive. then I usually turn of the unit then turn it back on. After doing so it does not connect to the hard drive for several hours.

Most times when starting up the hard drive isn't reccognized and I have to try starting it again. Sometimes if I tap on ther hard drive while it's starting it will activate but then it won't save all the work I just finished most times... It's a **** shoot! (What a way to work!!!) Very frustrating. Anyone out there know what's up with this beast?

on my mpc 4000 my lcd is blank but the back light is lit just no characters. It was working fine until I opened the unit up and the 14p ribbon cord disconnected. I reconnected it and the lcd went blank. I think it might be a damaged ribbon? any ideas?

Sounds like the hard drive either has bad sectors or has corrupted data and it needs to be formatted.
If checking for errors or formatting doesn't help, you may need to replace the drive. Depending on the hard drive that is installed, it may be getting to the end of useable life cycle or has damaged sectors and causes the MPC to lock up. It may also be that the controller board on the drive is failing.

Check the drive either with the built in utility or connect it to a computer and use a non destructive test utility like HDD Regenerator that runs from a bootable CD on a PC.

Cheers and good luck.

I can't hear any sounds in my mpc 4000

Have you loaded sounds for the pads from an internal or external storage device? (Such as CD or Internal Hard Drive, if installed) - each time you turn on the power, the programs are cleared so the pads will not make any noise until you load the sounds you want.

Otherwise, it could be related to your speaker setup?

Provide some details on your system setup and whether you are loading programs etc.

First you must configure your PC to read your mpc 100
flush card. Just insert the software CD driver of your mpc
100 flush card, if you have the CD. Otherwise, you must
have a download from the internet for the software driver.

Installing a 120GB HD kit into my mpc 1000 or RAM

well a hard drive is a logical drive in which windows and all the things you download are stored until the user deletes them, and the pc133 memory is a temporary storage in where when you open something on your desktop in windows it is then stored into your pc-133 memory so you can view it, the more of this you have the faster it will open items on the hard drive, they both pretty much accentuate each other, the more ram you have the faster your hard disk access will be

You could set the sample to "one shot" in the trim page or in the Program>KG Mix>Zone page.... it is currently set to "as sample"... i like to use the release to let the sample fade out as long as i like... its a lot diffrent from the old poly mono thing but i like it better overall... hope this is helpfull.

When youre in LOAD or DISK mode, does the mpc allow you to scroll through the cd? In what format are the samples. If the sample doesnt load, it wont play, but when selected, it should allow you to preview the sound. The 4000 allows users to import/load SND and WAV files.

The MPC4K should allow you to sample right out the box, but make sure you have the latest OS.

try the 4k FAQ..

http://www.akaipro.com/supportfaqsMPC4000.php

It's also covered in the manual with you can download for free @

http://www.akaipro.com/supportdocuments.php#Z248

I know, who wants to hit a manual when you want to bang out....I'm a classic 2K owner, trust me I know, but sometimes the 5 minutes in checking the methods, saves you downtime, and gets you into funk mode quicker..

The 4k is also the first Mpc to come with onboard sounds, so check a preset, then check your cd, and if youre getting audio from the preset, then you know it's not the sound generator / synthesis chip. If you have a computer, try itunes or sound converter to switch the sound format, or look for a really nice low end application called CDXtract.

If youre banging out on halloween, youre my kinda MPC user.

Keep me posted.
