    Hello j wright,

What video inputs are you using? If you are using the RGB inputs make sure the cables are connected correctly. Please inform of the connections you are using. Once this is done tell me if the problem clears, if not there might be a video output problem.

    Thank you,

I had a similar problem, with green patches appearing on the corners of the image. Did you register your TV to Sony when you bought it? I did, and received an email regarding a class action. There is a known issue with the optic block in this TV, and I had mine replaced for free. The new block started to do the same, and they replaced that for free too (it was through Sears). The optic block is a $1000 part. Here is a link to the class action. I think you might be stuck, however, since I believe the deadline for sorting this problem out with the class action settlement has passed.

Hope you get it sorted out!

I have a Sony KDS-R50XBR1 after replacing the lamp the color on the screen is very green. Is there a reset code or a instalation code to get into adjust the green past the custom white balance? Any help...

No reset is necessary for this problem. You have a defect in the optical engine. The part can run as high as $800-900 and more with labor. It's best to try to get a refund on your lamp and call it quits on this set compared to the cost of a new one. Sorry

The color is off. Everything looks either green or yellow.

This is a light engine that is failing and a VERY common issue. Contact Sony because the warranty on these light engines was extended until June 30th of this year under bulletin E30020889. It is probably worth it as a consumer to call and see what they will do for you since this was really a design flaw. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

We are noticing a green tint on our Sony KDS-R50XBR1

You have what is referred to as the "Green Blob". Sony messed up bad with the Optical Light Engine. They didnt realize until months after releasing the model you and I have they had a huge problem. So they figured not all Engines were bad. So technically, they havent recalled. I went through several months of talking with Sony and my warranty. You will need to call a tech and have them check to make sure. My tech knew what it was by me telling him over the phone. Hes worked on a more than he cared to say. Sony will play games. They will want a considerable deposit put down before sending the new Engine. And if thats not the problem...they keep your money!!!AAAAHHHHH!!!!I feel for you. I pray you have better service than me. Its been a year since. so maybe they are better. God Bless!!

KDS-R50XBR1 50 in. HDTV Television: I can't get rid of the GREEN

Its another instance of the optical block (light engine) failure these TVs are known for. Heat from the lamp has damaged the LCD panels in the light engine. Sony has been directed by the attorney general's office in New York to warranty these TVs going back 4 model years. Call Sony at: 1-800-222-SONY for assistance.

WEGA only show yellow

Hello watts74:

When you turn your tv on, you still get an image of whatever channel you are on, but the background on the entire screen is green/yellow, correct? If so, the problem is the optical block. Read what I posted below on another thread and you should be on your way to getting your situation resolved.

Here is the link to the other thread I mentioned: http://www.fixya.com/support/t157434-green

All the best...

If your SONY KDS-R50XBR1 or KDS-R60XBR1 color screen suddenly turns green, the optical block (aka light engine) is the culprit. Don't fret because as "Leadtech" has already posted back on Jul 04, 2007, SONY is aware of this problem and has extended the warranty to replace this very part. Additionally, and aside from the class action lawsuit currently pending in district court, parts and labor for in-house service IS included.

SONY states the warranty as follows:

"As part of the Sony commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that it is extending the limited warranty (parts and labor), in the United States, on the optical block of KDS-R50XBR1 and KDS-R60XBR1 model SXRD televisions until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date."

So all you have to do is:

1) Contact SONY Customer Service at (800) 222-7669 or (888) 772-7669 - Hours: Mon-Fri 9:00AM-10:00PM / Sat-Sun 10:30AM-7:15PM EST

2) Provide them with your model (as above) and your television's serial number

3) Tell them your screen color is nothing but green

4) They will provide you with a case number

5) They will ask you for your zip code and provide you with one or more SONY authorized service dealers, and their contact information.

6) You contact the dealer of your choice and schedule an in-house service. Explain to them that your screen is green and you are aware that many, same tv-model owners that have had this same problem, and that the optical block is the problem.

7) The SONY authorized dealer you speak with will schedule and appointment with you, and will provide in-house service.

Regarding the service, it will take about an hour to complete. Not that it is complicated for the technician, but where the optical block is located is that is time-consuming. It sits just "behind" the bottom of the tv screen and in order to get to it, the technician will have to:

1) Remove the bottom back gray cover

2) Remove the replaceable projection lamp located on the left side of the tv (looking from the back)

3) Remove lots of phillips screws

4) Disconnect many plugs

5) Remove 3 chassis closest to the back of the tv before getting to the optical block chassis, which is located up front, just behind the tv screen

Once the optical block is replaced, you will be amazed on correct color results.

Hope this helps...
