Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera
I can't seem to figure out how to change the resolution on my Canon PowerShot A540.
Follow the instructions in the "Changing Recording Pixels and Compression" section of the advanced guide (page 31 in my copy). If you need the manuals, you may download them from here.

To view the pictures on the computer, remove the card from the battery compartment and put it in a card reader connected to your computer.

Remove the SD card from the camera. Look for the tiny slide switch on the side of the card. Slide this switch back to the unlocked position (opposite of whatever its at now).

Here is how you do it.
1) press the menu button.
2) scroll right to the Setup Menu
3) scroll down to format.
4) scroll right to enter Format Menu
5) scroll up to Low Level Format.
6) scroll left or right to add a check mark.
7) scroll down to ok and press the function/set button.

There are a few things you can try. Here is an excellent blog about lens errors and stuck lenses, and it covers what can be tried to free it up:
They say about 50% of lens problems can be fixed trying their suggestions. Hope you're one of the lucky ones! Also, if nothing works, get an estimate before having it repaired. Often, it's just better to get another camera.
