Remove the SD card from the camera. Look for the tiny slide switch on the side of the card. Slide this switch back to the unlocked position (opposite of whatever its at now).

Can I use my Canon A540 PowerShot as a webcam for (up close) makeup tutorials?

You cannot. Your camera is far too sophisticated and its sensor produces high resolution images, so to hope it can produce low resolution 320 x240 images as streaming video is not realistic.

I'm able to view previous photos in my camera but, when i try to take photograph it says change batteries. i've put new batteries into it.. Plz help

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

Can not change the number of images that can be taken

Ok, this is a very easy procedure..
While in picture taking mode, press the set button and it will activate the controls to choose the image resolution. If you select a higher image size or number, it will improve your quality of picture as the number of the resolution you choose gets higher. Simply use the side scroll and the up/down scroll on the back... that will do it for you!
