I have a MTD PRO Model#12AV55DQ513 as well. The bell hub under the lawn mower has now cracked and chipped for the 2nd time. Taking it to a local MTD rep near here is difficult cause it's too far to go. Anyone know of other reps close to Port Moody, BC, Canada? Anywhere in the Vancouver, BC area?

Yes it can be fixed. Try some basics first.
1) Check under belt drive cover for excess debris
2) Belt and Idler pulley condition
3) Control cable operation
a) rusted, frozen, broken, disconnected

Yes there are 2 belts one for the drive and one for the auger. If you remove the cover on top that is located between the engine and the auger housing you can check the belts. The auger belt has come off the pulley or is broken. Hope this helps you out. Best regards and good luck.

On the handle end (usually) of the cable is a curved metal connector. Attached to the connector is a threaded rod with a nut. Attach a pair of pliers to the threaded cylinder that the threaded rod goes into. Loosen the nut. Turn the threaded cylinder into the threaded rod to tighten or out to loosen. When you have the correct adjustment, tighten the nut back down onto the cylinder. To be correctly adjusted, pull the cover off the auger belt and push down on the handle. The spring attached to the cable at the pulley end should stretch out when the handle is fully depressed. Spring tension keeps the belt tight.
