Re: will not finish set up
Try reset --- Hold the Reset button on the router in for about 30 seconds - then
To reconfigure, connect to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default
password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default
username and the default password are set to "admin."

by default router user id and password will be seen on the backside of your router. But still it is not there you just type user id as admin
and password as password but some routers also support blank passwords
Try doing a factory reset of the router by pressing and holding the RESET button on the back down for about 15 seconds.
After you do this, then try the installation again. The factory default password is "admin".

You can use the web based utility to make your router secure (password protected). Type 192.168.1.1 exactly into your browser (where you type in WWW.Fixya.com) and it will take you to your routers web based setup. Go through the tabs and settings and enter your password that you desire. The default for routers if not changed by the owner is usually USERNAME = Admin PASSWORD = Admin If you need further assistance Click HERE to go to Dlinks website for your model router. I hope this helps and good luck!
Hi! u dont need to download the cd for the router in order to setup ur wireless dlink router.. u could just pull up a browser and type in at the url:192.168.0.1 and it will ask the username and password, by the default the username is admin and for the pass, just leave it blank.. then it will pop up the setup page of the router, if u cant access the setup page bcoz username and pass is denied, press the reset button on the bac of the router for 10secs while power is on. it will set to factory defaul and by that time u can access the setup page.. i hope this will help..
Here is a link to Linksys's section (with downloads) on that particular router. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G/
If you are just trying to modify the settings of the router, you do not need software to do that other than a web browser. Start your internet browser of choice and type in the URL box 192.168.100.1 which should bring up your modem's settings.
