First ensure that paper loaded is on the right format, and try loading a good number of sheets, ADF can have troublesyou load few sheets.

Try rotating the ADF wheel back and forth, sometimes the sensors are fine, but the rotators lose grip, or one of the rotators may be stuck. This is probably the reason for the jam.

Follow instructions here:Fax Machines, Top Four Problems and How to Fix.

If that does not work, replace the ADF kit.

I've seen this before repairing computers and asked about fax machines while I am there. There are rollers that cling on to the paper and move it through the machine. When the rollers are worn down they do not grip the paper. For a short fix you can get something rough like sandpaper, brillo pad, etc, and gently scratch the rollers to give them some traction. This will temporarily solve your problem until you can get the rollers replaced.

On the back of the printer there is a asses door to remove paper.justy open that door to remove paper.and also it gets crooked due to the internal gears are either blocked or worn out,the gear assembly needs replacement in such cases.

Check document error, no paper jam

It may be a bad hinge on the document feeder. I have seen several times where the left hinge ( when looking at machine from front) does not close all the way. Close the adf and look at the gap between the copier and the adf. The gap should be the same from the front to the back. If the gap is bigger at the rear ( when looking at the left side of the machine) then you need to replace the left hinge. You can also try pushing down on the document feeders' left side as it feeds the paper. if it works while pushing down, then it is the hinge.

We have a Brother FAX-1840c. It will jam feeding paper into the scanner. I maintenance mode it returns an A1 error code. Feed rollers look serviceable and the pressure pad is clean. Stops half way thru...

Hi
There must be some torn paper or something stuck in the Paper feed. You will need to ope the upper face portion by pulling it, and then look for papers/ dirt / pins there, you can either clean it by blowing air or use a blower, or if you can see the particle. Try feeding the paper, it should be ok.

We can receive but won't take the paper to send a fax out

You have an ADF paper feed problem, try taking some rubbing alchoial and clean the ADF paper feed tires, This helps the paper to feed into the scanner unit so the fax can be sent. I have also seen part of the ADF feed unit broken.
Does the paper feed in but not transmitt out?

Paper jamming in fax

Feeds two sheets on top of each other through feeder when transmitting.

The problem is not the sensor, itis the rollers that feed and seperate the paper.
the sensor only tells it there is paper, in the machine. then there is a tire that feeds the paper and another that stops the others from feeding at the same time. If the tire ( on some models it's a pad that looks like it has a rubber or a cork.) is old it looses it's grip and let's the paper slip by. Try cleaning with alcohol, must be replaced eventually.

"DOCUMENT JAM" refers to your original document that you are trying to send. Lift the top of the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and look for a tiny peice of torn paper. If not, look for a stuck sensor flag (might look like a small plastic finger). If still no go, clean the roller that feeds the original, it may be worn out and slick. Hope it helps Ed

Auto feeds crooked

Are we talking about a paper feed problem from the paper cassette tray or the Auto Document feeder on the top. Either way, check the the paper width guides, or if it is the paper cassette tray, remove it and check the paper pick up roller locking clips.

Machine won't draw the paper in to send the fax

Technically, your machine is jammed. The paper is jamming as it exits the feed area, and enters the machine. Not being specifically familiar with that model, but rather based on experience with other simular machines with like problems, I would say you should look for 3 possible causes... Most machines have, shortly into the paper path, and generally in the area you're indicating, some sort of sensor switch, whether it be photo-electric, or a mechanically activated toggle, that senses and registers the lead edge of the paper so the machine knows it did feed. This switch could be knocked out of place, or simply dirty, and not sensing the lead edge of the paper within a certain period of time after the machine registers the feed had been actuated. A second possible cause would be (and you may be able to visually verify this) is that usually, in these types of machines, there is some sort of pressure or "retard" pad/roller in conjunction with the feed roller. If this isn't working right, the machine may be feeding more than one sheet at a time, and becoming jammed in the paper path path area due to "thickness". A third possible issue could be an unremoved scrap of paper from a previous jam (or a staple/paperclip/piece of rubber-band/or any other foriegn object, as I've seen them all) still remaining in a thin and obscure position of the paper path blocking the paper's progress to the afformentioned switch. Those are the most likely, but probably not the only possible, causes of the problem you are exoeriencing.
