Finalized vista set-up,oops its in french

My son received new laptop for xmas.while finalizing vista home premium he accidentally chose french as language.how do we switch back?

    sorry dude,tried that already.doesn't work.problem is that when completing o/s install he selected keys htat formatted o/s in french thinking prompts asked for format 1(f 1).prompt actually ask him to select keys f and 1 for french.does this mean we'll need to uninstall o/s and start again?if so,we don't have a disk.

    I suppose you feel that because I posted for some help,you are the only one with an answer.I didn't just sit here and wait for your all knowing replie.I contiued to search for a solution.My search turned up no more than your advice.(I'm doing no better on my own).I would still welcome advice in this matter,and I'm still going to look for a solution on my own as well.There also remains the difficulty of not being able to read the computers dialog. WE are french illiterate

    info i've supplied up to this point is what I need to know and as my son decides what I need to know.Some things I get to find out for myself and some things I also learn about after the fact.The lad is 17 and pretty independant in relating steps he's taken.This is a new out of the box acer aspire laptop 6000 series.Apparently the o/s required finishing loading and it was during this process my son was prompted to choose language.1st prompt he checked english.Second time it gets fuzzy.This is where he was asked to hit certain keys that he mistook for format request and ended up french.

    you may be a wiz.it may be xmas.you are @ work.your choice to be away.my choice is to attempt to make my children's xmas a good experience.i've spent most of my day(12+hours)attempting to find this fix.today i contacted some one with actual useful info.yes it was difficult to find answers on a holiday.only had to deal with one individual that felt it was personal and i won't want to deal with him ever again.he's an ***.his handle is pretty much self explanatory.others both on-line and on the telephone were atleast polite.

That is:
Start: Control Panels
Click the icon with a clock in front of the globe
Click the icon with a clock in front of the globe, again
Click the third-from-the-left tab
Click the big button
The first thing that pops up has a language selector. See if you can pick out English (United States).

If not, click in the section underneath -- click the topmost button, which is to add a new language.

    You Acer should have come with "System Restore" disks that will wipe out anything new on the hard drive and bring the computer back to the way it shipped from the factory. If you don't have the disks, Acer may have given you a utility to create them from a sometimes-hidden partition on a second hard drive partition. If you still don't have the disks, Acer can ship them to you, typically for $5-10.

    You say you're waiting for additional help. Good luck with that. Someone takes time away from his family, including a toddler, on Christmas Day, and you downgrade the quality rating ... including a walkthrough that doesn't involve any language ... and
    even though it matches the efforts you've been trying ... simply because he says it would be helpful if you posted the troubleshooting steps you've tried?

Is there a way I can finalize a DVD-RW so I can show films burned onto the DVD-RW?


Hi,

You have not pointed out what type of program are you using for DVD authoring. The option to finalize the disc is usually provided when you start burning.

I have an alternate solution for you which is easier. You can use the Windows DVD maker available in Vista Home Premium. This way you will not have to manually finalize the disc; it will take care of it itself.

Remember to install codecs such as k-lite basic coded pack for trouble free work with different formats. Then run DVD maker from the start menu. A tutorial can be accessed here.

Note that DVDs created by DVD maker can be played on most DVD players and on computer as well.

Common cause people attempt repair is because of bad memory in the first place.
First test your memory. Several program are available, but use the microsoft ERD (match x86 or x64) it has plenty of testing and repair utilities. First test the memory and move on.
Failure at the same place consistantly is usually memory. Inconsistant failures are either bad dvd drive or bad media (recovery disks)

Burner does not finalize discs

After you install Windows Vista on a computer that uses an SiI Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA) chip from Silicon Image, the computer does not recognize an attached optical drive as a drive that supports recording. Therefore, you cannot use the computer to burn CDs or DVDs.

1. sound driver 2. microphone settings in volume control applet 3. tap test (tap the area around the microphone and see if eg Sound Recorder picks it up) 4. external microphone
If you get to step 4 before you get anything then your problem is one of missing or damaged microphone.
