Need to install sound device

Few of the softwares in my system were re installed.now, when i play an audio or video track its asking me to install the sound device.my O.S is windows xp.please help. after re-installing a couple more softwares to my intel with windows xp OS.it now tells me to install sound card.it all started when formatting after a virus.

it requires a higher standard operating systems to install this software... if you are running in windows Xp try upgrading to vista and install the software... if you are already running in vista or win7 then it says that it requires a 64 bit operating system.....

There are a few simple things to check first:
• Make sure your computer has a sound card.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
1. If there is a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card, there might be a problem. Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.
4. Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.

Hi Jerry,

Sound Blaster is notorious for this problem, I have experienced it myself. Uninstall everything again, sorry it's a must, this time, do not use the cd for the initial driver install, download the latest driver first to your hard drive, uncompress the zip file to a folder on your desktop. Once you have the updated driver info ready, then install the hardware and use the new driver when asked by windows to install it, this should correct the problem. Also, make sure the default sound card is sound blaster using the control panel, sounds and audio devices, audio tab.

Pls help me


uninstall other audio software and try to install each audio software one at atime and test it out before install another software. Windows media is not the best audio software, but it should pick up any of the audio media.

No sound on my desktop


Hi.
It appears you need to install the drivers for your sound device.

To know if you have a sound device installed:

Go to Start - Control Panel - DobleClick System icon - Hardware - Device Manager, look under Sound, video and game controllers

Is there a yellow icon ? Yes ?
you need a software called driver to activate that device.

Stuttering sound when recording


It's crucial that you understand the concept of latency.

Latency it the time delay between the trigger and the operation.
In terms of computer sound recording and generation:
1) The time between the midi trigger and the sound generated by a software synth to come out of the speakers.
2) The time between the analog audio signal input to be converted to digital and stored on the hard drive.
3) The time between the digital audio track to be retrieved from the hard drive and converted to an analog signal that comes out the speakers or headphones.
4) All of the above at the same time.

The factors that contribute to this latency form a pipeline that include the A/D (analog to digital) device (UA-25), the software drivers for that device, the operating system, the recording application being used, the operating system again, your internal computer speed and your hard drive speed. Remember that the sound needs to go both in and out, often simultaneously (thats called full duplex).

A latency of up to 50ms is probably tolerable, but for optimum recording, it should be closer to 5ms. If you were to go over 50ms, you would need some sort of time compensation, whether automatic or manual, because nothing would synchronize properly, be it the metronome or previously recorded tracks.

"What's this mean, and how does it relate to my situation?" you ask.

Lemme tell you. The recording program and drivers will incorporate software buffers to adjust for slower components in your sound recording pipeline. Without buffers, or with too few buffers, the pipeline can drop information (sound) if it is not be able to process it quickly enough. This will often result in stuttering and skips. Sound familiar?

So why not just put LOADs and LOADs of buffers in the pipeline? You most certainly can, but for every buffer you add, you gain a bit of latency. And remember that too much latency is a bad thing.

"Ouch! I still don't get it. What am I supposed to do?" you ask.

I reply, "Good question, Grasshopper." You want to stop your stuttering. You need to increase the efficiency of your sound pipeline. For regular people this means the following, in order:
  1. Make sure you purchase an A/D-D/A device that has low-latency drivers utilizing one or more of the following standards: ASIO, WDM, MME or CoreAudio. Selecting the one that your RECORDING APPLICATION utilizes. ASIO is widely supported and good. WDM is the worst because it is really just regular Windows drivers, but they can sometimes be optimized for low latency.
  2. Make sure you install your drivers properly, selecting the one that your RECORDING PROGRAM uses.
  3. Make sure that your recording application has the hardware selected for your A/D-D/A device and the drivers that you previously installed.
  4. Make sure that your recording application is using ONLY the hardware specifically designed for low latency, which is your A/D device that you previously purchased and installed.
  5. Make sure you include as many buffers as you can while maintaining a low latency. Often, this is dependent on your recording application.
  6. Set the UA-25 to 44.1KHz or 48KHz, not 96KHz. 96Khz does not allow for full duplex.
Do these things and attempt to record something. If it stutters right away or you get "underruns" you need to increase your buffers. If everything is peachy for a while, but soon you start getting skips, try increasing the buffers, or get a faster hard drive or turn off some digital effects.

In summation: A Celeron 1.6GHz should have sufficient power to record, play and add a few VST plug-ins, maybe even a dozen or more. Chances are that your hard drive is fast enough to retrieve and record 16-32 tracks at a time. Turn off all the stupid, little programs that make icons near your clock, like the DELL support and Weatherbug and AIM and AOL and HP Monitor and anything that takes processing power and hogs memory.

Note: Do not use the “Add New Hardware” Wizard in the control panel. Follow the steps below to install your driver correctly.

1. Plug in the USB cable and power on the device – the New Hardware Wizard will start up (wait for it to start).

2. If Windows asks to connect to Windows Update, click on “No, not this time” and click on “Next.”

3. Select “Install from a list or specified location” and click “Next.”

4. Select “Include this location in the search” and Browse to the folder containing your driver (either on your CD or the folder you downloaded). Click “Next.”

5. Click “Continue Anyway” when the Windows Logo testing screen appears.

6. Click “Finish” when the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears.

At this point, you may need to reboot your computer. After restarting, you should check to make sure the driver was successfully installed. Go to Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices and make sure your device is listed under “Sound Playback” and “Sound Recording” for audio devices and “”MIDI Music Playback” for MIDI devices. You should also check in the Device Manager to make sure your MIDI or Audio device is listed under “Sound, video and game controllers” with no problems (such as the yellow exclamation point).

If everything is successful to this point, Windows has installed the device correctly and is making it available to any software you need to run. If you can not see your device in your software, you should first try re-profiling the device (different software programs do this differently). If this does not work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software. If you still do not see your device, you may need to contact your software vendor for more help.

- Mac OS X -
1. Make sure the Roland/Edirol device and any non-essential USB devices are disconnected.

2. Run the *.pkg installer from the CD-ROM or downloaded driver and follow the onscreen installation instructions. When finished, reboot fully.

3. Plug in the Roland/Edirol device. Ports should now be available in software (you can verify driver availability in Applications > Utilities > Audio/MIDI Setup > MIDI Devices).

- Mac OS 9.X -
Users must first decide if they want to run OMS or FreeMIDI, which can be downloaded from the World Wide Web. OMS is recommended. See the OMS or FreeMIDI documentation for installation and activation details.

Double-click the Edirol installer and follow the onscreen installation instructions.

Note: If you continue to have problems, you may wish to consider upgrading to OS X, as its Core Audio and Core MIDI features make this operating system an excellent base for music applications.

Pop/click/dropout is often a buffer size problem. Be sure to check your Buffer Size setting. You'll find it in the Edirol Icon in System Preferences or in the Control Panel of a Windows machine. Increase your buffer size until the problem goes away.
