Focal 165 CA1 speakers wont fit 1998 subaru legacy wagon

Our new focal 165 CA1 speakers do not fit the front door speaker hole by at least a half inch. The 1998 legacy wagon subaru speaker bracket will have to widened drastically or the door sheet metal will have to be cut back. What fun. Is there an aftermarket bracket that will fit or am I doomed to taking it to car toys to install at $80? Ideas?

SOURCE: Problem with focal k2 power and focal fiberglass speakers in car

It could be the setup of the speakers, but I would install a crossover equalizer for your situations. A crossover equalizer is supposed to automatically filter the necessary frequencies to the correct speakers. I have used no name and brand name XverEQs and they both worked the same for me. Along with this response I am assuming you also have Mids and Highs to go along with the woofers.

If it does not play when you put both coils in series, it is probably blown.

SOURCE: Im wondering on the best

Here's what one audiophile has for his super system:
In a car McIntosh 406 headunit ,Zapco Dc1000.4 amp + DC500 sub amp and Focal 165KRX3 + Focal 33WX2

Most audio installers know the best matches for various systems, so you should visit a couple. They're in touch with different systems and could recommend some for you, I'm sure.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

SOURCE: I need to know what

When putting in a good set up speakers like those, I always recommend:

Making mounting rings/plated for them
Sound Deadening Material to help seal the door up for better bass from the mids
Gasketing Foam to help decouple surfaces that may vibrate against each other
Duct tape
Good quality speaker wire.

Did you ever find the fuse for your Focal iCub? I think I have the same problem and I don't see the fuse, maybe it's under the heat shrink on the amp selection switch?

Installing aftermarket Kenwood stereo on 1991 Subaru Legacy. The subaru stock wiring does not have a red ignition wire. Can i simply connect the kenwood ignition wire to the Accessory +12v (Yellow/red)?...

Hi, according to my source, there should be an accessory wire that is blue with a yellow stripe. If your is yellow/red, that's fine. You actually should prefer an accessory wire to an ignition wire as there may be less static on the accessory wire. Just make sure the wire does not have power when the key is off. Don't use the illumination wires--they are not needed for the aftermarket head unit and should be taped off.

Warrenty

If it was fitted by an installer after July 1st 2007, then it's covered under warranty for 3 yrs, but if it was purchased then installed by you I'm afraid it's only one year :(

Having said that, if you are sure that the speaker blow due to faulty manufacture, Focal has a really good PR relationship with focal dealerships, and you could ask for the Focal representitive to inspect the midrange.

It's a bit of a long shot, however being Focal they like to keep the excellent reputation they have intact, and I've been able to replace a pair of Focal tweeters in the past (due to faulty manufacture) even thought they were almost 3 years old.

Unless things have changed somewhat over the last few years, they should still have a subjective approach to their warranty claims...

Well....here's hoping anyways!!!
