It just can not read the disk because lens might get dusty/dirty.
Usually CD/DVD lens cleaning disk helps. If it happens on all the disks it might be the issue.
Good Luck

DVD and CD players are very versatile and rarely malfunction, so I would say it is a bad DVD. If your DVD is still spinning then:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. While your computer is starting, hold down the Eject button on your CD or DVD drive.
  3. If your CD or DVD does not eject:
    1. Go to your CD or DVD drive.
      • In Windows XP: Click the Start button, and select My Computer.
      • In Windows 2000: Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
    2. Right-click your CD or DVD drive, and select Eject.
    3. If your disc ejects, the Eject button on your drive may be broken. If your CD or DVD still does not eject, release the drive's catch:
    1. Turn off and completely unplug your computer.
    2. Straighten the long, outer leg of a standard-size paper clip.
    3. Locate the small hole on the front of the CD or DVD drive. It will be just big enough for the paper clip to be inserted. Note: Take care not to confuse this much smaller hole with the headphone jack.
    4. To release the catch, gently insert the straightened end of the paper clip straight into the hole.

It sounds like you have a faulty blu ray drive. Your best bet is to have it repaired through sony, I believe a repair of this nature should run around 100-150$. Which is not that bad considering how much the unit itself costs. Then you will most likely have a brand new drive. Contact sony here:
call 1-800-345-SONY to receive instructions to obtain repair/replacement services. If you need further assistance let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

First check out is the dvd working in any other device or check another dvd in the device to confirm the faullt. or it is also possible there may be dust particles collected internally and needs cleaning.clean it and check out.or it could be the internal failure in such cases it needs circuit reparing.

    Check is it under warranty?
If its under warranty or out of warranty, DO NOT open unit by yourself because Sony will replace (out warranty would be charged) those sets which have intact seal on it.
Call Sony Customer Support for replacement and phone number would written on PS3 supplied documents.
    Good luck.

My ps3 plays games but will not play blu ray movie

You can try clear your movie data from the discs you\'ve played (according to Fox that\'s sometimes the culprit when a disc won\'t even load): restart your PS3 and go to the video menu and scroll up to the BluRay Data section. Go into it and check that it has saved some info for your movies. Now deleted all the data in this folder except the shared data crap, and hopefully your movies start perfectly!!

If that fails try the following:

In the XMB(menus) go to Settings ---> BD/DVD Settings ---> BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI). Turn that off. This has also been known to work.

Why won't my console play blu-ray movies

The Wii doesnt play Blue-Ray "BD" Movies, only the PS3 does, also the Wii doesn't play DVD's.
You can get the Wii to play DVD's by cracking the system by placing files on a SD Card, but your Wii will never play Blue-Ray movie because the system doesn't have the blue laser in the cd drive, sorry.

Have a nice day

My new 3.15 ps3 won't play blu-ray but will play everything else no problem. no problems to play games or to play normal dvd's. When playing a blu-ray the UNIVERSAL part at the start of the movie plays...

f the Blu-ray Disc does not support 1080p 24Hz video mode, the video output may not display properly.

If a Blu-ray Disc movie is not loading properly or is freezing on a title screen, this may be caused by the PLAYSTATION 3 attempting to download BD-Live content from congested movie studio servers. If you experience this issue, you may choose to temporarily bypass the BD-Live content until the congestion at the movie studio servers has cleared.

Go to Settings icon (Settings) > Video Settings icon (Video Settings) > [BD Internet Connection], select "Confirm". Then reload the Blu-ray movie and the PLAYSTATION 3 will prompt you if you wish to allow the disc to access BD-Live content. Choose to not access BD-Live content to see if the movie will now load.
For some reason you seem to think this is a PS3 problem. Why do you think this is a PS3 problem? If you can play PS3 games, then I will say it is not a PS3 problem, as all PS3 games are on Blu-ray, and if you were having problems playing PS3 games, then that could account for the movie not working.

Since only the movie isn't working, I am going to say you have a defective Blu-ray disc. Did you just buy this movie, or have you viewed it before using the PS3? If you have never viewed it on the PS3, then the problem lies in the disc, and you need to take it back and have it exchanged.

If you have played the disc in the PS3 before (the PS3 you are having a problem with, not a different PS3 or Blu-ray player), or you still think it is a PS3 problem, then use the "Disc Troubleshooting" support page. Normally, if a Blu-ray movie will not play, it won't play at all, and it is because the Blu-ray laser has gone out. It sounds to me that the disc is bad, but this is only going on the information you have supplied.

Here is the Disc Troubleshooting support page mentioned above:http://playstation.custhelp.com/app/answ…

**EDIT**
Sorry, I just noticed you gave a UK link. Here is the support page for the UK. You will have to do a search on the site to find the Disc Troubleshooting page for your region.http://uk.playstation.com/support/

You may, need to update over the internet for that to work, properly. Also try this go to BD/DVD Settings, then BD 1080P 24Hz Output (HDMI) and changed the setting from "automatic" to "off"... Then try & replay the movie.

PS3 froze while playing a BD, then it would not rcognize anything

Hi there,
Most PS3 systems end up doing this due to an over heating of the laser lens. Let me explain: The laser lens in the PS3 is made to read mainly Blue Ray games. The movies need to be read faster than the game discs which causes it to work harder thus the problem arising.
Sometimes, your lucky enough for this to only be a dirty lens problem due to rental movies which are most of the time, if not always, dirty.
Have you tried a lens cleaner kit?
This is the CD-ROM with a small brush on it to clean your laser lens head.
This problem has happened to me in the past and this solved the problem.
It is a common problem for any lens reading console.
Regards,

Plays ps2 games but doesnt plays ps3 games or dvds

please verify:
  • your dvd disc region (must be region free or 1 - for USA)
about ps3 games try:
  • restoring your system
  • reinstalling all game data files
  • re-updating your system
  • playing blu-ray MOVIES disc, to check a possible problem with your reader .
if the bd movie doesn't work, you have got a possible problem with your bd reader .
then, take it to an assistance center for hardware repair .
