Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:

Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

here is a website to help you setup the Xbox Live:

Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Add wireless card to gateway sx2800-01

You add the printer to the router not the PC. Go to the manufacturers website for installation instructions. or follow the instructions on the disc. Set up is usually done with a wired connection anyway. But to make your tower wireless it is easier to add a wireless USB adaptor.

How to setup a Wireless Network

1. <b>Connect Your Wireless Router</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Power off your cable modem and your wired PC.<br /><b>b.</b> Unplug the Ethernet cable from your cable/DSL modem and plug it into one of the LAN ports on the back of the wireless router. Leave other end of the cable connected to your PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Connect another Ethernet cable between your modem's Ethernet port and the wireless router's WAN port. (The WAN port should be separate from the other grouped LAN ports.)<br /><b>d.</b> Power on the modem and watch for the status lights to indicate that it's connected to your Internet service. This may take a minute or so.<br /><b>e.</b> Plug in the router. The status lights will blink as it runs through its diagnostics; this may also take a minute or so.<br /><b>f.</b> Start up your wired PC.<br />2. <b>Configure your Wireless Router</b><br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the router's quick-start guide, launch Internet Explorer, and type in the address indicated in the guide.<br /><b>b.</b> Follow the on-screen setup wizard, which will guide you through the process step by step.<br /><b>c.</b> Enable your router's security functions. This is very important if you don't want other people attaching to your wireless signal. The options will be WEP and WPA. Both will ask you to enter a key. Depending on the router's manufacturer, you may have to go into Advanced Settings to accomplish this step.<br /><b>d.</b> Change the default administrator's password, Almost all hackers know them.<br /><b>e.</b> Change the SSID-the name of your wireless network. Again, hackers know many of the default SSIDs and can use them to hack your network.<br />3. <b>Install a Wireless PCI Card in a Desktop PC</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the card manufacturer's quick-start guide. If necessary, run the software installation program.<br /><b>b.</b> Power down the PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Remove the cover.<br /><b>d.</b> Find an available PCI slot and remove the slot cover from the back of the PC.<br /><b>e.</b> Carefully insert the antenna through the open slot in the back of the PC, carefully push the card in the slot, and secure it. Can I hoop up a wireless router to this computer

You can hook up any computer/laptop to a wireless router via LAN cable or by wireless connection.
For a wireless connection each computer/laptop needs a wireless card and the wireless card driver installed and the wireless card needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I have a DSL502T ADSL Router, and have bought a new emachines computer. I can not connect to the internet. The computer has a wireless connection loaded but I want to connect by dailup Please could you help...

You are a bit confused with the various components required for Internet connections.
If you have a dial-up connection with an Internet Service Provider, all you do is connect your computer's modem port to the phone line and dial the phone number of your Internet Service provider.
If you are connected to the Internet Servise Provider by ADSL and have a combined ADSL router and modem then you connect the phone line to this router/modem. If the ADSL modem is separate component then the phone line is connected to the ADSL modem and this modem is connected to the router with a LAN cable and the computer is connected to the router with another LAN cable. If the route is wireless and the computer has a wireless card then you don't need a LAN cable between the router and the computer.
If you are connected to the Internet by ADSL, to secure your Internet connection and configure your computer so it can connect to the Internet, please follow my instruction - click on this link :-

Three different wireless cards could not connect to the wireless-G Router I need to confirm WEP and check router settings.

Plug an ethernet cable into the router and laptop, remove the wep key. See if you can connect wireless then. If not sounds like you need to manually remove the the connection from the connection properties (DONT DISABLE THE NETWORK ADAPTOR) then see if you can connect.

I am trying to connect to new acer laptop to my wireless network, but my acer empowering technology toolbar, located above my keyboard, does not seem to be working to allow me to connect to my wireless...

Hey

for this you gotta now the following:

1. ssid : this is the name of your access point (router)
2. key/passphrase: this is the network security key you configure your router with (if your router has a default configuration (the one that came with the device right out of the box which is not recommended) your key may be a blank key ... you simply don't have one set up.
3. the encryptation method: wep, wpa, wpa2. this goes again to how you have your router configured and if your don't have anything configured with your router in regards to encriptions (not recommeded) you may simply not have any encryptation that you need to select here.

important:
make sure your wireless adapter is working and is on:
your laptop may have a switch on the front to turn your wireless adapter on (i don't know what model of laptop you have so you may want to check the user manual that came with laptop to find the switch) or you may have to turn it within windows. (also check the user manual of your laptop)

now that you have the info needed and your adapter is on there are 2 ways to do this:

1. using your beloved acer empowering technology:
I found this that may guide you through the process of setting up your wireless connection
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/empowering_technology/acer_enet_management.pdf

look under the title: SETUP A NEW PROFILE and follow the instructions..

now if acer empowering does not work... you can try to setup your wireless connection with windows,

2. Using windows vista to setup your wireless connections:
I'm assuming you're using vista so here's a set of instructions with pictures you may want to take a loot at and follow

http://www.home-network-help.com/vista-to-connect-wireless-network.html

let me know how it went!
if problems.. post what you see and we'll try to give you hand. (please give as many details as possible)

When using the Belkin G router the network connection becomes lost and can not get on the internet. My computer has Vista on it and Belkin says that the router is compatible with the program.

This is possibly caused by your firewall or the wireless security (wpa/wep) on the router if you have set it up.
First of all, if you can connect to the internet via a cabled connection the problem is going to be with the way you've set the router up.
If you've setup wireless security on the router, have you also set it up for your wireless adaptor?.
I suggest you try to connect to the internet via cable to start with, if this works try to connect wirelessly with your firewall off.
If all else fails start from the beginning again.

Connecting Wireless Modem to Laptop.

Firstly, you need to connect your router to a broadband activated phoneline. On the back of your router there is a socket which should say Phone Line and I believe it is at the top.
This will then radiate a radio broadband signal.

Next, you need to be able to link your computer(s) to your router. There are basically four ways of doing this.

1) ETHERNET - You can connect from the ethernet socket on your computer to the ethernet socket on your router. If you have an ethernet socket on your computer, this is the simplest connection but not always the most convenient. If you don't have an ethernet socket on your computer you will not be able to use the yellow cable.

2) USB - You can connect from the USB socket on the router to a USB socket on your computer. You will need to install USB drivers to do this, but it's not difficult.

3) WIRELESS - You can use a Wireless LAN Adaptor. This can either be a card, built in to your computer or an external USB linked wireless adaptor plugged into an available UBS socket on your computer. These are trickier to set up but you have the freedom to connect to the internet from anywhere within radio range of your router and without wires. Some computers have wireless network adaptors built in already, especially laptops. You can find out by doing the following:
Start\Programs\Accessories\Communications\Newtork Connections - check to see if any of the connections say 'wireless' If they do you're in luck.

4) HPNA - You could use a Home PNA Adaptor (HPNA). This allows you to connect to your router from a different room by plugging into a phone socket through through the HPNA. These can be a little unreliable and do suffere sometimes with interference.

As soon as you have connected to the router, you need to connect to the router's Gateway or control panel. This allows you to set a WEP security code for your network and stops your neighbour or anyone else from connecting to your network. If you use a wireless LAN you will have to set this up with your security code.

To prevent hash intereference to your phone, you need to use microfilters on each phone in your house. Usually a couple of filters will be included with your router, and you can easily purchase more, if you have phones all over your house.

Please find the guide for your router at the link below.
http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/1000_series_Gateway_Install_Guide.pdf

You can also download software and drivers from http://www.2wire.com
Just go to the support page and look for your particular model

Hope this helps....
