Sometimes CD player lenses can be covered with dust, smoke etc. You can purchase a "CD Lens Cleaner" to see what happens then.

DVD Player is not reading DVDs. when switched on NO DISC prompt appears.

It could be cause by a dirty optical lens. You can try cleaning it by using commercially available CD OPTICAL LENS CLEANER. Just follow the instructions given by the manufacturer. If nothing happen and if still under warranty just bring it back to the store or to the authorized service center. If not try to follow this simple step before you call a local repairman. Sometimes a dirty optical lens cannot clean by a commercially available optical lens cleaner. (1) Unplug the unit from the wall socket. (2) Unscrew the unit to remove the protected cover.. (3) The optical lens is located in the middle section of the CD tray assembly. here is the picture. Never touch the optical lens because it may add more add more damage on the unit. (4) use a cotton buds and a drop of cleaning solution or a drop of water if you don't have... Clean the optical lens but do not push so hard, just enough touch... After you finish cleaning the lens just return the protected cover from its original position... then plug the unit again to the wall socket and try if the problem is solve... I have burned a .wma video file on a cd-r, on my computer it runs perfectly... only when i put it in my dvd player it say's stop and won't play. Can someone help me out ? Thanks Jeff

Several causes for non-playback:
1. Your CD player doesn't like CD-R
2. Your CD player doesn't recognize wma
3. The music you converted to wma is copy protected and the CD player wont play due to that.

1. Most likely this isn't the problem as most working CD/DVD players recognize CD-R. Double check with your user manual.
2. Check your DVD player's playback formats. Most will play mp3 and wav. If that's the case, rip your music to mp3.
3. There are many hacks out there to remove copy protection. This you'll have to figure out on your own :)

No recognize disks CD and formats MP3

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

Unfortunately, if the player will no longer read any commercial cd that you attempt to play or MP3 disks, the unit is defective and needs to be replaced. The unit has a 90 day warranty from the date of purchase. You will need the receipt in order to receive a warranty exchange.

If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

Suddenly "cannot play this disk" on Sony DVD/CD..every DVD...CD's work!

I have the same problem. I have a 5 year warranty from the company I purchased the unit from. I am not sure if they will replace it or not. I am reluctant to buy another one with this known issue. We have enjoyed the unit for nearly 3 years with no issues.

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)

Dear FixYa Team,

Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.

Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.

Thanks again.

Doesn't recognize disks anymore

This is a common problem with the Lite-on LVW range of DVD recorders due to changes in the construction of more recent DVD R media. It can be solved with a relatively simple firmware upgrade.

Goto :

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.

Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.
