Ipod touch - wireless connect to my MSI RG54g2 router

A computer service tech replaced my old router with a MSI wireless RG54g2 [s/n rg54g20408901063]. I do not have an instruction book and I do not know if it has any passwords set up on it.
It ties into a cable modem for internet access.
Now I have a iPod touch.
How do I fix the setting on my router so the iPod can connect to the internet?
Thank you,
Joe

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to your queries:

  • instruction book - pls click here;
  • passwords - open a browser, the MSI RG54G2 web interface is 192.168.1.254, password is "admin", less the quotes;
  • iPod touch - will auto detect your MSI
  • setting on my router - if allows your computer(s) to access the Internet, no further settings required;
  • iPod can connect to the internet - if no WEP or WPA is set on the MSI router.
This is of course assuming that the MSI RG54G2 is allowing your computers to access the Internet lready and will be shared to the iPod Touch.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-437-do-you-need-a-fix-ip-for-remote-connection just click the above link for diagrams on how to connect. The iPod touch is the only iPod with wireless access to the web, but you won't be able to connect unless you're in range of a wifi access point.
From Apple's web site: "iPod touch finds wireless networks and connects you to the Internet".
That can be a little misleading to some people, especially since not everyone knows that most wireless networks only have a range of a few hundred yards.
Not all wifi networks allow free Internet access either. Many wifi centers like Starbucks or McDonald's charge you 2 or 3 bucks for the connectivity, which can add up quickly!
The iPhone on the other hand, which looks a lot like the iPod touch, will keep you connected to the Internet wherever there's cell phone coverage. My Blackberry Curve is the same way - as long as I'm within cell phone range, I can browse the web and send/receive email.

power down or unplug each item in your network.... modem, PC, router, i touch.

in 5 min. re-boot in this order...

    Modem

    Router

    PC

    I Touch

Wait for each to gain internet signal before moving on to the next item.

the ip address must be reset, and established with each piece.

As long as you know the network name (and password if applicable) you will gain internet access.

    To view the network name,

Start - control panel - system properties - Computer name tab.

Your network name is under "workgroup"

If your network is secure, only computers with the proper password will be allowed. Your network admin. should have given it to you when it was set up.

do you have a firewall associated with your PC that would prevent access??

if so, you have to allow access by the ipod.

Hey i have a problem i whant to put my wireless router on code/password so can u help me and explane me how to do that?

You can secure your wireless network wit WEP or WAP code.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
For belkin router http://192.168.15.1
or
http://192.168.2.1

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on wireless settings then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.
Thanks for using FixYa.

My wireless is on but everytime i try to go to the internet it doesnt go through and it says my ip address has been changed

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

Connect MSI RG54G2 to speadstream 4200

so that means if you connect the computer to the modem, it works but not with the router.
it seems that the router and the modem are not communicating with each other.
When you connect the computer to the modem , check the IP address through the modem. If ti is private IP address then you will need to change the settigns on the router.

When the iPod touch asks for your Password enter your Wireless access point"' "Network key" instead of a password.

The key is shown when you address your WAP at 192.168.1.245, click on the Wireless tab, and then select Wireless Security

Can't connect via cable, but wireless works fine

seems you are using winXP-P. Your firewall might be blocking it. Or your virusscan program might be blocking it. Come back after disabling these features and trying again.

Wireless Router RG54G2

assuming you have tried without typing a password; try admin or password or router admin. You can reset the router by a hole recess normally at the rear of the unit using a pen tip and push it in for 5 seconds or so.
