At power on LCD lights up for a split second, you can see DELL logo then it goes black!

    Hi,
Ask your brother in law, did he made any recent hardware or software changes to his laptop after which this started happening like installing some software/windows updates or installed some new card into his laptop.

It sounds like a memory problem. Open the memory slot and remove both modules and then replace one at a time and try to boot. If you only have one module move it to the empty slot. If it continues you may need more memory. It could possibly the hard drive also, but it sounds more like a memory problem.

You probably have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

I have not network adapter on DELL D505 I can not create an Internet connection?

You can download the LAN drivers from Dell WEB site, thesupport download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operatingsystem. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

I can get to f8 menu page but when you pick safe mode it will start but freeze up i need to do a system recovery on it however just starting windows normally it will come on with logo but black after that...

Yes you will have to do a complete restore. Run your "Built In" system recovery software. I think this is accessed by pressing CTRL+ F11 twice only.
when dell screen comes up on keyboard hit CTRL+ F11 twice only then you will see Dell pc restore by Symantec.Hit on restore and hit on I agree and select the option Restore the pc to dell factory settings and then it will restore the pc.

Could well be a RAM slot failure.. Try running on 1 stick of RAM and swapping the Mods around..
