It depends on what the back says towards the bottom it should say for example A2407 or the such or look it up on ebay and find the one that looks just like yours and the model should be listed there.

You can't actually "stop" the song. The pause really is a "stop". If your looking to exit out of the ipod completely what you need to do is from the home screen.
Double tap the home button (bottom) and a menu will open from the bottom. Then hold your finger or thumb on the ipod logo till it shakes and has red circle with a line through it.
Tap the circle, and that will shut it off.
You can also do that with all the running programs listed, that's the only "app kill" feature the iphone has.
connect the ipod to pc start itunes when it detects the ipod in recover mode click on restore button to restore the firmware it will download and reinstall the firmware
if it isn't detected in recovery mode then simply click on update button when it is detected normally in itunes.
