Samsung remote won't turn 630 LCD off. Only volume works.
New 40" 630 Samsung is only remote functionable. Volume control works. Any other command will just beep. TV used to have a continuous small red light on in the lower right corner. It is now off until you throw a command from the remote. It will light and blink then go off. I have to unplug the TV to turn it off.

this is common,
It may well work for most functions then let you down an one like volume!
You should have at least three (but it should be more like 6) different codes to try and one should work.
If your remote has a learning function and you have an original remote to hand, some have the ability to learn the function by direct lt beaming the remote command into the harmony itself.
First I would check if the remote is momentarily sending out the volume command or is it sending it out continuously. You can use this trick with any IR remote.Using a digital camera with display, point the remote at the camera and press the volume button on the remote. If the IR led is working then you should see it glow on the cameras screen. When you release the volume up button, the IR led should stop glowing. If it does not stop then you may have a sticky key or a problem with the program. If it shuts off then the Harmony is functioning ok and there is a problem with your receiver.Another way to test this is to press the volume up button and then immediately cover the remote with a blanket or take it to another room or remove the batteries.Let me know if the remote is continuously sending out the Volume command or is it momentary. Hope this helps.
Check in the TV's AUDIO menu for anything related to turning on/off speakers. Also, unplug RCA's that you may have hooked up to the Audio OUT ports. Some video inputs may not have a sound input associated. The only one I can think of would be VGA, but even that would be rare.
programm the remote to your tv by pressing the TV button till all lights light up at the top then enter your 3 digit tv code ( samsung codes are 738, 516 or 680 then press pound. this should enable you to controll power and volume, be sure to press sat to operate you dish recvr.
If the batteries have been replaced the volume and tv power function from the remote will not work.
I t will need to be reprogrammed, the codes are 11100, 10000, 11312 if the ok select swith is red if the ok select swith is grey then use the code 0000 or 0111
PaulTulsa is actually incorrect, Directv remotes do allow this function. I had this problem too... but was able to fix it. You have to go back into the system settings menu. Depending on your receiver (I have the hr21-100) press "Menu" then scroll to "Parental, Fav's & Setup" then "Sytem Setup" then "Remote" then select "Program Remote". Scroll to "TV" then select the brand name (I also have a Samsun tv). Follow the directions to change the code of the remote and manually go through the codes they have posted. The second one worked for me. Good luck.
