Question about Nikon Zoom 80-200mm f/4.0 AIS Lens

Lense will not work with SLR Nikon D90

I recently purchaced the new digital SLR Nikon D90. When I attach an old Vivitar 80-200 1:4.5 mc zoom no. 280209980, the camera will not take a photo. The lense will zoom and focus but it will not capture the image.

Have you tried using the lens with the D90 in the fully manual mode?

This lens is too old for the D90, it has not got the electronics for metering and autofocus.
You can use it manually in M mode but you will have to set the aperture and shutter yourself.
The D90 manual has a section on compatible lenses, page 228 in my version.
This recommends CPU lenses for the D90, type G and D.

Quantray mc auto zoom 70mm-210mm

Yes, if it is a K style bayonet, it will work - Pentax allows any K mounted lens to work with all their cameras from the K1000 from 1976 to the present... BUT - don't expect auto anything... including zoom or metering... but it should allow you to use it at least... Assuming the Lens is a K mounted lens... (you can't use it if it is a Nikon F or AI style, or Canon, or Minolta, which all use a bayonet style mount...)

Will the Vivitar SI 70-210 mount on my Nikon D90. Will the AF work properly? Thanks

Vivitar makes lenses for a variety of cameras, so a lens for a Canon, for example, will not fit onto a Nikon. Assuming the Vivitar lens has a Nikon mount, then yes, it will mount on the D90 and yes, it will autofocus properly on the D90.

Using vivitar 70-300 lens

Yes and yes. Bear in mind that not all features may work. You probably won't get autofocus or metering with the Nikon D90, for example.

Vivitar telephoto lense 500mm

Yes and no. If it doesn't come with one, you'll need a T-adapter for Nikon in order to mount the lens (you can get one from Vivitar, as well as from other manufacturers). The lens is not an autofocus lens, so obviously you will have to focus manually. It's also a mirror lens so it has a fixed aperture. It's what Nikon classifies as a non-CPU lens, so you cannot use the D90's exposure meter. You will have to shoot in Manual mode.

Old Lense and new camera

Here is a link to the lens limitations of the D40, same for the D40X:

The camera will not recognize the lens but you can take pictures setting speed and aperture manually. Since you see results after you take the picture, you can make adjustments to correct your exposure
