To eliminate popup AOL's SpyZapper No Lon...

Please tell me how to get rid of the pop-up: AOL SpyZapper is No Longer Available! For TWO MONTHS now it keeps popping up, many times a day, every day when I access AOL and is driving me crazy. I phoned AOL, tried their Live Support, and also sent you several e-mail complaints: Suggestions which were: Opt-Out of Google Window, Marketing Preferences where I left everything unchecked, Pop-Up Control where I checked no pop-ups from AOL - do not do a thing!!! There must be a way of getting rid of this idiotic pop-up. ferencjs@aol.com

-   I have a Vista (unfortunately) and I have this problem as well. I think it may have been the result of a faulty install of the secure edition of AOL (which Vista cannot handle). I have seen the solution is to uninstall and reinstall AOL. I did not try this yet.-   DaraLynx

AOL FINALLY listed the way to remove this major annoyance.
And it actually WORKS.

Delete the SpyZapper components manually. Log in to your computer using the administrator username and password, and then search and delete the following files:
  • AOLszs.drv
  • settings.ini
  • OptScan.exe
Note: Generally these files are located as below:
AOLszs.drv & settings.ini files location:
  • In Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\AOL
  • In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL
OptScan.exe file location:
  • In Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\AOL.
  • In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_AOL 9.1

If you have Windows Vista, click on Computer, double click the C drive. Click on Tools and then Folder Options. Click on the View Tab and click Show hidden file and folders. You will then see the ProgramData folder. Click on that and then the AOL folder. Double click on teh OptScan folder and delete the AOLszr.drv.

That did it for me. I did not have the other two files AOL said to delete, but it still worked.

Good Luck,
