I had this problem on my Nuvi 260W. What I did was to slide the switch to the "on" position ....not quickly...but this time, do it and "hold it" in the ON position, count to 10, then release it. Did it power up?

your battery in your garmin does not have enough power to stay on. You have to charge through your car outlet or usb port on computer. Only other option is to replace battery if it doesnt charge from car outlet since you said wont connect to computer.
Have you tried resetting the 205W. There is a reset button on the bottom of some of the units if not power off the unit and then hold the power button for about 10 seconds till it starts, it should go through a start up and then reboot itself. See page 42 of manual. I will attach a link to the manual, click here.

If your GPS is plugged into your power outlet in your car, it just means that the power outlet retains power when your vehicle is off as well. Meaning it is not an "Accessory" power source. Not a big deal, simply slide the power button on your garmin unit to the left. The power button is located on the top left side of the GPS. It is spring loaded so when you slide it to the left, hold it there for a second then it will spring back into place. Just release it and the unit should power down.
Your nuvi 5000 does NOT have a internal battery and that means that you cannot operate it unless it is connected to a 12 volt power source. Connecting it to your computer via USB allows you to install map updates, check for firmware updates, etc, but you will not be able to use it as a gps while it is connected to the computer. There is nothing wrong with your gps.
To use your gps in the home you need to purchase a 12 volt adapter, there are several types, plug the adapter into your wall outlet and connect your gps to it. If you can sit near a window it will help in picking up the satellite signal. Just keep in mind that you cannot connect the 12 volt power supply and use the usb cable at the same time. Enjoy your gps.
If you left your Garmin c330 on running
the battery will have 1% life left. If you turn c330 back on again, it
will flash screen for 3 seconds then die, even charging it at this
point will not wake it back up. TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE... plug in the
power home or car into Garmin c330. There is a tab in the front Garmin
gray frame of your screen. You must take like your fingernails and
under the logo "GARMIN" pull the whole gray plastic frame off.
Underneath the plastic frame to the right hand side. There is a "RESET"
button. Make sure power is plugged in while hitting reset. Your battery
should come back to life. Cheers
