How do I change Channel default on start up

Use your remote. Press menu and look up initial set up or reset to factory settings.
* Note that as of Jan 2018 most cable companies do not provide analog outputs to TV sets. If your still using Channel 3 for an input to your TV then it won't work or will stop working some time this year.
* Hook up your TV using the old RCA video/audio jacks; Yellow plug is video, Red is audio right, White is audio left.
* You can also use an HDMI cable (best) for High Def picture which is all the rage for HD TV.
* You may also connect using the DVD style cable hook up which uses 4-5 separate cables (3 for colors and 2 for audio)
* Once you have some sort of video or message on the TV screen then you can proceed to setting up the cable box. Have the cable box hooked up and on for at least 15 mins. Look at the cable box display till the correct time is displayed. Power up the cable box till you see the power on indicator. Now use your TV remote to select the correct input you hooked your cables t. (probably HDMI) The display should show you your cable service. Now use the cable remote to select your channel.
* If you don't have a cable box but still have digital service (usually called basic cable - no premium) then use the analog/digital input on the TV remote and select initial set up. There should be an automatic channel search and set up to scan all the channels available on the line your connected to. This will take up to 15mins. If you know the specific channel you can cancel the scan and pick each channel for you own list. Letting the scan run may help you find other channels you are unaware of.
* Final; if your still having problems then call you TV MFR support line and they will talk you through to check your set.
* You can also check the cable company support line if the TV check out okay. The cable company may or may not be able to supply you service for really old Tube style TV sets as most if not all TV's are digital now.

Cannot get picture/menu on screen!

Hi,

The Sony recorder is connected to the TV via the RCA cables (for both audio and video)? How many inputs does your TV have? One cable input and one RCA line in (making a total of two? Did you eliminate the possibility that the recorder might be defective by trying it on another TV?

The remote accidently has S video button pushed. I have S Video at the top of a blck TV screen. I'm not sure how to get back to the TV screen because no button is working. I run the TV through the...

Use your TV remote to change the input away from S Video. There should be an Input button or Video Source button. Press this button repeatedly to cycle through the inputs. Depending on how your cable box is hooked up to your tv, your input will vary.

I can't figure out how to program cable box. The cable is hooked up to the TV, but I can't find out how to get channels. Is there a certain menu or imput?

Are you getting any picture at all? check your tv's input button on the remote if your cable box is hooked up with hdmi select hdmi, if it is component video cable select component video, and if it uses a coaxial cable it should be something along the lines of tv. Push the input button on the remote to switch between the different modes

Magnavox DV220mw9 won't record from Tv, hard to connect

check out this diagram, paying close attention to the audio video cable hookups.

assume the cable tv box represents the converter box

you are going to come out of the converter box audio and video outputs into the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo audio and video inputs.

Then out of the new magnavox dvd/vcr combo outputs to the inputs on the tv if it has such inputs. The TV will have to operate on the video input 1 or 2 if the tv has such a thing, use the remote for the tv to adjust the input signal to line in 1 or 2 depending on what it has.

If the tv has no coaxial input or audio video inputs then you might have to use an adapter, you can get these from radio shack.

You say it will not record from the tv, but in all actuality the dvd vcr combo is getting the signal from the converter box not the tv, do you understand what I mean here?

So the dvd vcr combo gets input from the converter box so you will have to set it to view signal from the line input you have plugged in from the converter box. line 1 or 2 or whatever the input is.

the tv will have to be set on the line input to view the signal from the dvd vcr combo.

That is as easy as I can put it. Study the diagram closely. You will see what I mean.

Lost manual...I cannot get DVD or VCR to record

You need to decide which set of inputs or outputs you want to use. To record, and watch what you have recorded on your TV, you will need TWO sets of audio/visual patch cords. One for recording and the other for playing. Let's start with the recording. Look for the Line in or video in plugs on your DVD-VCR unit. Some recorders have separate inputs for the VCR and DVD. Others let you select with the remote. Usually Line 1 is at the back and Line 2 is on the front. Your remote will have "recording source" to let you select, or sometimes you can use the channel up and down arrows to select your input source. Your remote will also allow you to select either the DVD or VCR for recording. Connect the Yellow plug to the Video In socket, and the red and white plugs to audio in., Connect the other end of the cord to the TV or cable box. Yellow goes to Video Out, red and white go to audio out. Recording from the cable box is much easier because you wiull always have a signal going into the DVD-VCR recorder no matter what happens at the TV.  Now look for the Video out connection on the DVD-VCR recorder. Connect the Yellow plug to video out and the red and white plugs to audio out. Ignore the other connections at this point. They are for RGB component video. Your DVD -VCR should have one output for both functions. Use that one.
Now connect that cord to a Video one or Video 2 input on your TV.
Test the set-up. Play a DVD or a VHS tape and try to bring it in using the TV remote.
Then turn on a program and try to record it on  the DVD-VCR, then play it back.
This sounds very complicated, but all that's involved are two patch cords with three plugs on each end - 12 connections in all and color-coded. YELLOW is always video.

DVD cables

You have to plug your DVD cables into the "input" connectors on your tv. Input audio and input video. Also there is either a switch on the back of your tv or in your menu where you have to choose "component video". Or it might be labled Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, etc. You might have both a switch on your TV and a choice in your menu. If so, both have to be set to "component Video. Sometimes on the back of your set, the switch is not labeled. It just has "arrowed" lines coming from the different switch positions and leading to the "outputs and inputs" on the back of the set. Set the switch so that the lines lead to the red, blue and green INPUTS on the back of your set. Your problem is not serious. It is just a matter of "telling" your TV that you are using "component video". Component video is when you are using the red, blue, and green inputs. It is also possible that your DVD has another output besides "component out" and also has a switch. Make sure this switch on the back of your DVD is in the "component OUT" position. Your DVD might also have a connector on the back that looks like connectors on the back of VCR's and most TVs. This is an "F" connector and the cable has to be screwed on. It's just like a cable tv cable. Screw a cable into the "out to tv" on the back of your DVD and screw the other end of the cable into the "RF" INPUT (or cable input) connector on the back of your tv. Be sure to look ALL through your TV menu and DVD menu. The DVD sets to "component OUT" and the TV sets to "component IN". Hope this helps.
