Question about Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR AGP TV OUT 4x agp Graphic Card

1 Answer

Upgrade from a 64MB nVIVIA GeForce4 Ti4200 graphics card.

Please recommend a graphics card upgrade.
Motherboard is a Asus A7V333 with Via KT333 chipset, operating a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor.
My need is for an upgrade to operate ADOBE Photoshop CS4 application.
ADOBE recommends, quote ' Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0' unquote.
I will be using Windows XP OS, with Service Pack 2 loaded in.
Help in this matter would be fully appreciated.
Regards, Thomas

Thanks Howardepgco, your comment helpful, much appreciated.

May I add some additional info regards my query.

The system unit was manufactured by Evesham, of 2002 vintage,

model AXIS 2400+RK2, which has already been upgraded, by 1). RAM increased from 512 Mb DDR PC 2700,ie 2x256Mb, up to 1.0 Gb,

    and 2). HDD from 80.0 Gb 7200rpm UDMA 100 with 2Mb buffer, to a 250 Gb unit.

Comment : I did not realise that exising graphics card had 512 Mb capacity.

Appreciate your thoughts on upgrading RAM to 3.0 Gb, how can I find out for sure this is an option !

    Regards, Thomas.

This card is really good for an AGP card. It had 512 mb of DDR2 memory. If you are using Photoshop You need to look at upgrading to the max amount you can get into you machine.Photoshop is built to use as much memory as you will allow. I think you can go to 3 gigabyte of standard DDR NOT DDR2. Also, XP has Service Pack 3 now so download that from Microsoft's site. Hope this helps.

If your board has an AGP slot, the video card will work great and take a lot of the load off your processor.A nd there are still great selections for ram for your board and now very cheap too. Check this page out it has some great options for your board. Check out the 2 gig Mushkin ram. This was very high end ram back in it's day. Although you have 333mhz ram in your ststem, the 400 mhz will work just fine.It will simply default to the speed of your system bus.

Is ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB PCIe DVI & HDMI Video compatible with this motherboard?

hi,
unfortunately no. the first reason is this MB doesn't support PCIe and even if it did the ati card will never get up to speed as this board isn't going to be able to push data to the video card at a rate this card could benefit from.
I would recommend you use and AGP slot card for video as most people would have purchased a card like GeForce2 MX400 for use in this MB back when it came out.

hope this helps

How do you know that ram can match with your motherboard?

You'll find that information in the manual for your motherboard. With a quick Google though, I think your motherboard is capable of 3X 184-pin DIMM up to 3Gb DDR SDRAM PC2700. I hope this helps!

I would like advice on upgrading my Graphics card

Unfortunatly your still running low end CPU power and low end agp graphics. Your going to pay 150-200 just for a fair PCIe/AGP HD/3D VC. If $200 doesnt hurt (and this is the lowest price best option), then might I suggest Mobo/CPU/RAM for around $200 that would do the trick and allow for future upgrades. You might also need a power supply. I just built one less than 3 weeks ago for a friend and it fairs against my own gaming comp.

Can i run ati radeon HD3650 512mb on asus k8N motherboard

Hi,
you can upgrade your processor to a 3200+ or a 3600+ but the problem is availability and it should be socket 754 pin compatible...
regarding the HD3650 card...as long as its aa AGP card you should not have any problems..
also check your SMPS (power supply) it should be atleast 350(V)..

I have AMD Athlon XP 2200+ m7vit bravo m-b

All current 333 MHz capable Socket A chipsets (VIA KT333, KT400, nVIDIA nForce2, SiS 746FX) should be compatible with Barton based processors although you may need to flash the BIOS for the processor to recognized properly
your board has a 333mhz front side bus so should be capable of running them
You must ensure that the cpu is for 333 mhz and not more and that it fits socket A which your board is
Please post rating thanks
