Question about Kitchen Ranges
I have a Magic Chef slide in range/oven model 6892xrs. The range had been throwing F1 error codes when power when the stove had power but nothing was turned on. The membrane switch stopped working altogether. This week I replaced the membrane switch, and everything seemed to be OK. No more error codes, and each of the membrane switch keys worked properly.
This morning we turned on the oven to make breakfast. The oven started to heat up, but then shut off. There was no error code in display, and we were able to turn it on again. Once again, it heated up, but then shut off. This time, when we went to turn it back on, it displayed ''door'' in the clock display (no beep). If I press Stop/Clear and hit either broil or bake, it again shows ''door.'' The door latch for self cleaning is all the way to the left (i.e. not engaged). It's almost as if the logic in the stove is telling it that the oven is in self clean, and once it gets to a certain temperature, it checks to assure that the door is latched, finds that it isn't and shuts cuts the power to the oven.
I am able to close the self clean latch and initiate self clean. I have that going now and have about 2 hours to go. Don't know whether that will clear this problem, but I didn't see any harm in trying.
Do you have any idea what might be causing this behavior? Is it the clock module? Is it a faulty relay board? Is there any way for me to determine the cause using a multimeter?
Usually if the symptoms stop with the touchpad disconnected from the
clock, that touchpad is often the cause. If the error continues even
with the touchpad disconnected, the clock itself is usually at fault
and will need to be replaced to correct the problem. On some models it
is not possible to disconnect the two in which case the electronic
control/clock would have to be replaced regardless.
There is a tool that allows testing of the touchpad (on models where they're separate parts) but is kind of expensive for a homeowner to purchase them self. If you contact a technician so equipped, they should be able to test the touchpad before replacing any parts.
BTW. On most models, the control keypad is only sold along with the whole control panel (without the electronic control) but on some models the keypad linked below can be used to repair the one on the original control panel.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, as the error code name implies, fault is with the door. To my knowledge, common electrical arrangement would have two (2) types of door switch; door is closed and door is locked. The error code could be referring to either. Both switches are also sensors and indicates a simple on/off condition and therefore could be tested for continuity. Both could also possibly be wired to the logic controller to tell the controller of its state and for the controller to take action (as in your case auto shutdown). Since the door would be often used (abused), I am inclined to think that the door/door switch could be the most likely suspect or at least parts related/affecting it.
In most units, there would be a tech sheet at any of the panels perhaps at the bottom/kick panel (if one is present). Said tech sheet would contain error codes and user action possible to address said errors. In most cases, there is also a wiring diagram which could assist you in further diagnosis.
Should you be interested, there is an exploded parts diagram which may help you locate the different parts here.
Would appreciate an update on any developments. I have a funny feeling on the "self-clean". It either corrects your fault or cause the door to be stuck at lock condition.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
