HD programs work fine, however, the standard pictures are distorted. I had this once before and someone fixed it but not sure how.

You probably need to to turn your aspect ration on the TV down. Newer HD screens use a 16:9 aspect ratio for HD content which is a wide screen format. Standard definition TVs and programs use a 4:3 aspect ratio. Most flat screen TVs have an option to display in 4:3. This option is most often found in Menu/Setting>Video Options>Aspect Ratio. For standard definition programming you want 4:3, for HD you want 16:9.

Picture size too large, especially horizontal

Try to press the zoom in or zoom out button on the remote control
if that didn't work, try to check the aspect ratio of your TV. You can see the aspect ration on the menu. set it to 4:3 standards and if it's HD TV set it to 1080i.

It say 480 stretch on the screen how do I turn it to 1080 for my Hd tv

Make it sure that you have a 1080 signal from your source(eg. HD receiver, bluray player etc.). Try pressing format button on the remote until you get full picture . Or try changing the format or aspect ration in your satellite or cable box.

Picture is to tall. it cuts off the top of the heads

It sounds like you have the image on the perspective. If you tv is 4:3 aspect ration the video source (cable box, dvd ) must be set for a 4:3. If you have a 16:9 ratio (widescreen) the soutrce should be set to 16:9..................Nevermind, Just looked it up you this TV is 4:3.

Your TV remote will have a button to toggle/change the aspect ratios of the TV. Button could be called picture/aspect/image etc. If you have an HD cable box you need to go into the video setting and chnage the aspect ratio to match the 4:3 tv.

RCA D56W20 picture problems

More information is required to properly troubleshoot this problem. How is your television connected when you are watching HD? Do you have HDMI for this, do you have a satellite or digital cable box? For analogue are you using regular coax antenna (cable TV), or are you going through a cable or satellite box?
This could be related to the aspect ration setting. perhaps you ahve changed your aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 or some other setting. If you are connected via HDMI, then the digital signal may be "normalizing" your picture during HD, but reverting back to the other setting.

Check you video settings very carefully. HD televisions are very difficult to tweak properly.

Aspect Ratio Memory?

Problem could be the fact that you are connecting with composite cables. You should never connect an HD receiver with an analog cable like composite. It does not give a HD picture. You want to hook this up with HDMI. This might also help your problem because of the fact the native aspect ration of composite is 4:3.
