Question about Whirlpool 18.2 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator ET18PKXG
I have a Whirlpool Model ET18PK and it has stopped cooling in the fridge and freezing in the freezer. It blows warm air, I need help trying to fix it right now if possible due to Christmas.
After pulling the fridge away from the wall and removing the lower right hand panel I noticed that the compressor (big round black ball with copper tubing) was not turning on. I also noticed that there was a ticking or popping sound comming from it every couple of minutes or so. After doing some research online in numerouse forums I decided to try and replace the overheat relay that is attached to the compressor. It only took maybie five minutes at most to change it and the compressor is now working with nice cold air comming into the fridge and freezer. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

more than likely the compressor is not starting, it has a starting device on the left side of the compressor which has a relay/overload called a relay, remove the relay and shake it , if it rattles it has gone bad. the relay/overload combination has gone bad and can be replaced with pro41 relay. if the compressor has a run capacitor just eliminate the capacitor when replacing with new relay. connection of the two wires makes no difference.

SafetyDan, you probably have a bad starter. i replaced mine its working again. if after replacing the starter you still have the problem then it's a bad compressor but the starter can be found locally or online for about $40-$70 depending on where you live. i found it online here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=263269

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool,
then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling,
then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not
