Re: Problem with screen when plugged in.
There seems to be a power management problem or a similair fault.
I have checked for power manager updates for your notebook but there are non available, although there is link below to get in touch with hp 'Live' or troubleshoot on the page for battery and power faults.

Try booting into the BIOS Screen and resetting to factory defaults. If that fails suggest swapping the hard drive out and re-install the Operating System - Save your old data and migrate the data off the old drive. You can buy an external drive adapter to connect the harddrive to a USB port to migrate you data.
Get new inverter, its under the screen trim, either on the side or between the hinges. Small PCB with 2 plugs on it, in and out. Match model number and search Ebay. direct plug in replacement. Worked for me.
this problem should have 3 possible culprits. 1. ac adapter - it could be shorted. if you can find another working ac adapter and try it in your system the better. 2. the motherboard. 3. LCD. does this computer still has warranty? try calling their support and see what they say. if this doesnt have warranty anymore, then try to find another ac adapter to narrow down the issue.
It sounds like one of the most frequent failure for a laptop, the plug on the back of your laptop is probably broken. Check if it's loose, try to move the plug until you get the orange light. If it's the case, someone need to resolder/replace the plug on the motherboard.
