Dell sk-8115 not recognized on boot up. After soft boot it works

I had a larger hard drive installed. After starting the computer, it fshowed a failed to connect prompt. When you soft boot the system, it will work. I assume I'll need to get a disk(?) and download some sort of drivers? The key board is new and did not come with the original Dell computer.
Thanks, Max

Hi im Dyanne.. on th 1st screen at bootup press th desired key to display th BIOS setup. on some machines you will see a brief notice on th screen as it comes to life stating which key to press. (ie. delete, F2 or esc etc) if not consult your instruction manual. you will get to a blue screen headed CMOS. now you need to setup th BIOS to recognize th presence of th new h/d. this will enable you to auto detect th h/d. go to th 1st in th list (cmos settings) and where it says PRIMARY MASTER click on it and enter and this will auto detect it. press F10 then Y and enter. this will now access your h/d and boot normally. good luck and merry christmas .. Dyanne xx

No, there are no 'extra' keys on the Dell SK-8115 - it's a business style keyboard.

I am at work in a hospital. Our IT people are not here at night. I can not get my Dell keyboard to respond. When I touch any key, it makes a soft beeping nose, but nothing happens. I think I accidentally...

Hi,

First of all make sure that the Number lock or fuction lock are not on. Press one of these keys and see what happens.

Secondly if the keyboard is part of a desktop unit, disconnect the keyboard. Restart your computer and reconnect the keyboard after the system boots. Allow your operating system to recognize and reinstall the keyboard.

Good luck and please post back if you need anymore assistance.

Regards.

Keyboard is not working during boot up. So cant boot from a CD. What possibly could be the problem.

1. Always start tapping any key when you see logo of the manufacture like Dell, HP.
2. If it all does not work, Go to bios(It depends upon the manufacture, try F2 or F1 or Del at the startup) and make CD-ROM as the first boot device. Note:As soon as you see manufacturer logo start tapping, F2 or F1 or Del key to go to bios.
3. If you have a wireless keybord, try to use a wired keyboard.

What do you mean? Keyboards can't play music or sound unless you're talking about a laptop.

Try using different USB port(s). Use ps2/usb converter if necessary.
Test keyboard on another computer, could be bad especially if usb mouse works ok.

Dell SK-8115 USB Keyboard on none Dell PC Issues

Have you gone in and removed the usb drivers by doing the following.

1.) right click on my computer
2.) select properties
3.) Select Hardware tab
4.)Select device manager
Then remove all instances of usb that you can.
You may have to try this using just the mouse for navigation. Right click on usb item then select uninstall. Remove all the ones you can then reboot the computer. You may have to reboot a couple times
Then try the keyboard it should work no problem

Dell SK-8115 USB keyboard on non Dell PC

This model keyboard has an internal USB hub and Windows only sees the hub when booting. The solution is to get a generic USB keyboard and boot into Windows. Once Windows has loaded the HID drivers for the sk-8115 keyboard then this Dell keyboard will work from then on.

(That is the the Num Lock indicator, nothing to worry about.) If it is not working it is likely because USB keyboards can time some time to be recognized by windows, let the computer boot up with the keyboard connected and let sit for up to ten minutes.

Sometimes if other hardware is detected at the same time which requires drivers to be installed, windows will never proceed to installing your keyboard, however you cannot install the other drivers until you have a working keyboard. To solve this, you will need to use an older style PS/2 keyboard to get everything installed and working as they do not need to be detected.
