I have tried this several times-gone out to windows for all updates but can't stay connected long enough to get them downloaded. Do you think I should uninstall my wireless network card and reload it?

Do a hard reboot, hold the powerr button for 13 seconds and it should power down.  You might have to unplug if this doesn't work.  It could have hung up during windows updates (this happens alot), let me know if this works and update me.

It does sound like a driver problem with the card. If you are connecting to the internet briefly, it could also be an incompatibility problem.

Do you have another computer where you can download the latest drivers for the network card? If you do, I would do this. Otherwise, delete the network card from the device manager, uninstall the software for the card, and try doing it again.

I hope you get this fixed.

How to install

Shut down the PC. Open the case: On the back there is a button that releases a panel at the rear of the top. When that is raised, the side comes off. Once inside, there are some connector slots on the motherboard. If you have dual video cards, you may not have any free slots! Remove the cover on the case for the slot you will use. Plug in the card. If there was a screw holding the cover for the slot, use it to lock in the card.
If you don't have any open slots, you can use a USB wireless adapter, and return the card.

If it's a desktop it may not have a wireless card installed on it. I would recommend going to the eMachines website and look up the model of your desktop to see the information on what was included in it. You may need to purchase a USB WiFi adapter to add wireless to the computer.

Your machine was difficult to track down. As far as I can tell, the 5260 is the Intel motherboard. Below is a link to a page where you can individually download the drivers you require. Best of luck!

It's not a internet controller, it's the driver.
It's not the driver for an emachine w3653 (which is the pc) it's the driver of the Linksys wireless card. Go here
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys
go to the page of your card and from there get the Vista driver.

Emachines desktop with netgear wireless adpater

You need a driver for the card.
Download one here if wanted after reading on.. I will have the link below inwhich you can click onto for instant access

Emachines are the worst computer to have. They have more problems since they are manufactured so cheaply. My advice is to sell it and purchase a HP, Or a DELL.
When the power supply gets a spike it shorts out the Mother board instantly
Emachines do not beleive installing a fuse so that is why the mother board goes too

Montior in Sleep mode

Take out the newly installed memory chip... If your sure its compatable with the motherboard, reseat it correctly into it's slot and fire up the computer. OR try rebooting with just the old memory installed. Monitor blackouts happen when the incorrect Memory is installed OR when the Memory is not seated properly.
stop chasing video and monitor problems...... :)

I am not able to install driver for D-link wifi card

The card could be bad. I've found over the years that most of these desktop wireless cards work best when the software is installed before the card is installed. Meaning uninstall all the software. Turn off the machine. Remove the wireless card. Turn back on the machine. Install the software. Once installed, shut down the machine. Install the card. Turn back on the machine and lets Windows find the card and the software.
