Please try to uninstall yahoo messenger and then try to reinstall to check if the issue persists. Let yahoo choose your internet configuration itself, even if it does nt work then try go to connection prefernces in messenger.
I do not believe this ...the only way is if there is a dual boot system installed so when you boot it should prompt you to choose the op sys ya want to run ...the solution is as fallows...either you install the windows xp ...but I heard about problems with some notebooks that came with Linux cause the HDD is too small to support windows,,,( ex 2G...) and if you install it you will not have room for anything else ..if you dont want to mess with this my solution is .. web msn messenger ..so you will be able to use it without install it ... https://login.live.com/login.srf?lc=1033&id=45940&ru=http://webmessenger.msn.com/default.aspx?pop=true&tw=20&fs=1&kv=9&ct=1239080877&ems=1&kpp=3&ver=2.1.6000.1&rn=ZhIEL9kQ&tpf=372872e4f545ca86ae55c572225f3703 make sure you disable the pop up blocker for this site ....Good luck !
Are you downloading software for linux. I know that there is a limewire for linux and an msn for linux. When you save your files also, you need to choose whrere you want them to go. It's a little confusing at first because linux's filesystem is a little different than windows. If you want to save files then you need to find /home/"your linux username"/desktop. "Your linux username" is the username you use to sign in with when you first log into linux.
Press your home blue button, go onto settings in the right handside bottom corner. Then select live update. As its the first update it might take up to two days to load. After that you will be able to use messenger :)
