Question about Gateway GT5220 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Will a new PC be able to run an old DOS program?

My business uses Symantec's Q & A program - the DOS version.

Will a new PC be able to run it? I only have the old fashion square 3.5'' diskettes for the program and I don't think new computers have a drive to accept this size disk.

My current desk top is a Gateway that I bought in 1999 - it has the Windows 98 operating system. Is there a way to make a mirror image of this computer's hard drive onto a new computer? If so, would that be a good idea?

Thx for your time and trouble!

You sound like you are living in the dark ages. Very bad idea with IT.

Anyway, get a USB floppy drive on your new PC. Problem solved.

I use "DOS Box 0.74". it opens a dos window that you can run paradox in. Its FREE and works great, even in full window mode. Only issue I had was I toggle to DOS occasionally to clean up txt files and DOS Box has limited DOS commands.

How do i renew

you can auto renew right ni the program but the best way is honestly to go adn purchase a new version from walmart or right off of symantec.com. reason for this is new features, changes and sometimes they fix bloating issues.

My computer doesn/t hav eNorton, though I paid for it, but I switched from an old desktop to a new laptop.

Hi,

Do you mean you want Norton on your laptop?

If so then go here to symantec and contact them. I'm sure they will provide you with a link to download the program and give you a key to activate it seeing as you have already paid for it.
Make sure you have all your details ready as any support technician will ask for proof of purchase.

I'm trying to install Norton 360. It says it's detected the old 60 day trial, and removes it, then asks for a restart. When it boots back up, it says the same thing again, and I've restarted 7 times now....

Go to Control Panel > add/remove programs and uninstall Norton 360 from there.
After uninstall is complete then proceed with restart and then install the new version.
In case you are unable to remove the software via add/remove programs then reinstall the old expired version (this will repair the old installation). Restart then uninstall via the method given above i.e. through add/remove programs.
This software is a problem when uninstalling..you are not alone.

I need to download a program that requires windows and my computer says the program wont run in dos mode how do i get it to work?

if the program requires windows that means it was design to work with windows and not with DOS.. you may want to get an old version of the program that will actually run under DOS.. usually you may be able to do the opposite which is to run DOS program on windows.

if possible try to get a DOS version of the program you are trying to run, or better.. upgrade your operating sytem so you can run your program and possibly other DOS programs.

post the program you are looking to download and confirm what operation system you're running and I'll try to look for it with you.
