Re: remote control not working...

Hi there is a long thread in about other folks having problems with remote not working on all kinds of Kenwood VR receivers. go there and search on Kenwood receiver remote . I had the intermittent problem with my VR405 also, remote worked 1 day a week only sometimes after a smack to receiver sometimes not. Problem is the solder joints at the back of the infrared on the circuit board - they have a slight crack around them, as the unit heats up they occasionally start working. I resoldered them according to instructions in avsforum thread and it now works great

Re: remote control not working...

I'm not sure of the exact fix, but when these components were assembled a few of the connections involving the remote sensor were not saudered. An easy fix if you know where to look.

Pioneer vsx-32 won't turn on with remote

Hi, since both remotes suddenly fail, I am assuming the problem is more than likely with the received rather than the remotes.

If you do wish to check your remotes, then point your mobile phone camera at the remote's Infrared lens and press one the remote's buttons. Your mobile phone camera is able to detect Infrared light and in case you remotes are working properly, you should see light coming out of your remote's Infrared lens.

Make sure that no direct sun light is on your receiver because that can effectively block out the signals from your remote controls.

Try the following method to reset your receiver. Unplug your receiver mains cable from the mains wall socket; power your receiver on by pushing the on/off button (nothing will happen obviously) and leave it like that for say 30 minutes. By that time all capacitors in your receiver will have discharged. Plug your received mains cable in the mains wall socket.Push the receiver's on/off button and see if it know responds to your remote controls.

If the problem still persists, you may have a failed Infrared receiver LED. That component can be found inside your receiver. It will take some basic elelectronics skills to get this component replaced. A service manual can help you. You can download it for free from this website:

Good luck.

Need manual for this product. trying to get original remote to operate receiver only. not worried about other components. remote lights up but wont operate receiver. i think it needs re programed. help!

You don't say what happens when you use front panel controls. This is possibly not a remote control issue.

But if it is...

Try this advice:
"Dead" Remotes Can Be Saved
How to Re-Start Your "Dead" Remote Control
This only takes about a minute and will restart 1 in 3 "Dead" Original Remote Controls. Good Luck!
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.
Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!
Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.
Step 5- Try the remote.
Special Note:
If you have a digital camera, camcorder or camera phone you can test the remote to see if it is emitting a signal. Face the remote towards the lens of the digital unit until you can see the front of the remote. Depress any button on the remote. You should see a light (steady, blink or flashing) being emitted from the remote. If you do then the problem might not be the remote but the sensor on the unit.
If it works, Great!
If not, it's time to call 1-800-Remotes or use this website to order a new remote.
Find new or replacement remotes:
or eBay: search for "(model) remotes", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

Hi. My remote for this system has all of a sudden stopped working.. It has new batteries and the sensor on the top of it looks fine?

If you are using an universal remote control, maybe you'll need to re-enter the codes for the equipments you want to control, if it's the original one, possibly has an electronic fail caused by a former fall.

Hi i have a Rotel Rsx 1067, powers up then off, the remote control is using new batteries, the receiver pickups the remote sensor but doesn't do nothing. volume control does not adjust up or down, and when...

Try fixing your remote controller, because sometimes when we neglected to replace our remote batteries for a while, it will leak and it will build up on the contacts of the remote pad.

Take off the battery, open the back of your remote, lift the circuit board, clean the green painted part with cotton balls slightly damp with rubbing alcohol as well as the black thingy behind your remote pad, let it dry put it back together, replace with a new battery and try if it works.

Good luck

All remotes controlling my Onkyo TX-SR304 stopped working

try putting the remote an inch away from the IR receiver on the unit and see if it works then, if so then you definitely know its broken. This can and does happen. From what you have posted it sounds like no remote is working on the receiver, the ir receiver can break. If you need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,

Remote works intermittently

Unfortuntately, you and many others have this problem. I will point you in the direction of two "fixes" I have found.

Fix 1 is from Kenwood themselves, per the following quote:first try replacing the batteries if you haven't already. If that doesn't help, try resetting the receiver. Simply unplug the receiver, then press and hold the power button on the receiver while you plug it back in. Turn the unit on, and the display should say 87.50 to confirm the reset. If the remote still does not work, use a digital camera as an eye, face it towards the IR of the remote control. Depress any of the remotes buttons; you should see IR flash each time a button is pressed. If not then the problem is with the remote. If the remote works fine, then the problem is with the receiver. In order to determine the cause of the problem, I suggest you take the defective unit to a Kenwood authorized service center for evaluation. You can find information for authorized service centers in your area by visiting our website at

The second fix involves some very simple soldering, and has been endorsed by many as the solution:

I hope this helps. Good luck and please let me know if this solves your problem!

I tend to agree that the LED is loose on the foil connections. You can certainly test it by shining it at a camcorder and observing the viewfinder. Most, if not all, video units can "see" the light coming from the led if it is functioning. An easy way to test this is to use another remote that you know is working and do the 'corder test. ....accordianman
