WMP 11 will _ONLY_ install on a "genuine" copy of Windows. The only ways out of the "PROTECTION" error: * start in Safe Mode, and use System Restore to go "back" in time to a date before the problem started; * reinstall Windows from *GENUINE* media.

How to do Blu-ray playback using Media Player Classic Homecinema

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is an extremely light-weight free program for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player v6.4, but has much more additional features. You can use it as a Media Player Classic Home Theater. MPC Homecinema supports a wide range of decoding formats and file formats, following are the details:

Supported Decoding:
MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 playback. Media Player Classic is capable of VCD, SVCD and DVD playback, without the need to install any additional software or codecs.

It has built-in codecs for MPEG-2 video and codecs for LPCM, MP2, AC3 and DTS audio, and also contains an improved MPEG splitter that supports playback of VCDs and SVCDs using its VCD/SVCD/XCD Reader. A *.mp4 and MPEG-4 Timed Text support added. An AAC decoding filter makes MPC suitable for AAC playback in MP4.

MPC Home Cinema also has H.264 and VC-1 with DXVA support, DivX, Xvid, and Flash Video formats is available in MPC HC. MPC can also use the QuickTime and the RealPlayer architectures. Media Player Classic supports native playback of OGM and Matroska container formats.

Supported Video, Audio and Image File Formats:
WAV, WMA, MP3, OGG, SND, AU, AIF, AIFC, AIFF, MIDI, MPEG, MPG, MP2, VOB, AC3, DTS, ASX, M3U, PLS, WAX, ASF, WM, WMA, WMV, AVI, CDA, JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP, D2V, MP4, SWF, MOV, QT, FLV

To make commercial Blu-ray movies playable with Media Player Classic Homecinema, one thing you have to do is using a blu ray disc ripper to remove copy protections before your playback. The following contents will give you the detailed steps.

Note:
If you are using a powerful PC, you can do the following "Directly Copy". When playback, MP Classic Homecinema will automatically download codecs as needed, so you are able to successfully play m2ts files directly copied from the BD disc, which have the same quality as the original.

1. Load Blu-ray files to Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper
Three ways are available – "BD/DVD ROM", "BD/DVD Folder", and "IFO/ISO".

blurayripper_total_100419.jpg

2. Select output format
Click on the dropdown list at the end of "Format", then follow "Copy">"Directly Copy".

blurayripper_copy_100419.jpg

Note:
If you are using a slower PC, we suggest you not to select "Directly Copy", because your slower PC will attempt to play the output m2ts files, but the sound does not keep up. So other formats supported by Media Player Classic Homecinema are recommended. To remain the high quality of a Blu-ray movie, you can choose "HD Video" as output format as below:

blurayripper_hdvideo_100419.jpg

3. Click "Settings" button to adjust audio and video parameters
Note that this option is unavailable if you are using "Directly Copy". Generally speaking, the default settings are able to satisfy your needs basically, but if you have higher expectations of the output files, you can adjust all the following video and audio parameters according to your own requirements.

blurayripper_settings_100419.jpg

4. Click "Convert" button to start Blu-ray ripping
As soon as the ripping work is finished, you can get the output files for MPC Homecinema via tapping "Open" button. After that, you can import the files to MPC HC for playback. Have fun.

Additional Tips:
More than "Directly Copy" and format conversion, Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper also supports "Full Disk Copy", which enables you to get a standard Blu-ray structure ready for burning.

Why does it keep on displaying 'disc error' whenever I insert a disc?

Hi Rhea
You'll want to narrow down what is the problem.
  1. Look at the disc. Is it a nice clean, unmarred surface, or does it look like it's been used as a coaster in a tough bar. Especially with Blue ray, systems can be picky about the disk media, and just punt if they have too many read errors while trying to get to the menu screens. In that case, try using another good-condition disc and see if it works now.
  2. Is it a commercial disc, or a home-burned one. There are ongoing issues in any Blu-ray or DVD players about what media types are or are not recognized. Most commercial media should be fine. If it's home media, verify that commercial media will work. Then you may want to see if you can update the firmware on the player. A lot of them now hook right into your wireless, or ethernet, but often need to be told to look for firmware updates. Your manual will have the particulars. Alternatively, you can usually download the firmware to a thumb drive and then plug it into the USB port and trigger the update. Sometimes firmware updates will include newer lists of accepted media brands.
  3. Does the disc play OK anywhere else? If your laptop or older player play the disc ok, then it may be the player.
  4. Is the disc domestic. If the disc is from another region, it may be encoded differently than the player is set up for. You'll need to consider whether to possibly burn an unlocked copy of the disc (stay legal, please), or view the disc on a region-free player.
  5. Has the player ever been cleaned? You can build up dust bunnies over time in these players from not perfectly clean discs going in and out. You can get a commercial CD/DVD cleaner disc fairly inexpensively and run it through in case the lens is dirty. A modest puff of compressed clean air into the slot may also clean things off a bit.
  6. If you've done all this and it's still not responding, then you may need deeper diagnostics on the player. Look up your model number in a search engine along with 'won't play disc' and you'll likely find all sorts of forum threads about tracking down the error.

    Good Luck!

How to watch Blu-ray movie on your HDTV

Blu-ray movies always provide people with outstanding visual and aural experiences, so you can imagine how wonderful it is to watch BD movies on your widescreen HDTV with your families sitting on the couch comfortably in your living room. Roughly, the ways people used to watching Blu-ray movies are various, and the straightest method is connecting a Blu-ray disc player to a HDTV for playback. However, People also have other solutions even though they have no Blu-ray player, including using an Iomega hard disk media player or a WDTV Media player, Popcorn Hour, Xbox 360, or other media players or devices as a medium, or using an external hard drive to store the BD files and then connect it to HDTV to watch the movies, or using the HDMI port or an S-Video cable to watch videos from PC to HDTV, etc.

Since Blu-ray movies have strict copy protections (AACS, BD+, region code), as well as these intermediates have their requested video formats, for example, some supports mpeg4, divx, and xvid, some supports AVI or WMV, and some supports MKV or others. It is essential to remove BD protections and rip Blu-ray to an appropriate format for playback on HDTV through these in-between devices. You may ask: "what is your method to do format conversion?" Well, the following paragraphs will shed some light on this question.

Software you will need:
Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper
To find a step-by-step instruction in the following:
Step 1: Install and launch this program, and afterwards you can click "DVD Rom", "DVD Folder" or "IFO/ISO" icon to load your Blu-ray files.

Step 2: Select subtitle and audio track
Click on the pull down menu of "Subtitle", then all the subtitles in the BD movie will be listed out, including language and subtitle ID, you can select one according to your own needs.
Click the drop-down list of "Audio", and then all the info about audio tracks are shown clearly, including language, audio codec(turehd and dts master audio are both supported as well), stream ID, and audio channel, you can choose whatever you like to do conversion.

Step 3: Select output format
Click on the drop down menu of "Format" to select output format. Which one to choose is depending on the compatible formats of your media players or devices that you used to transfer BD files to your HDTV. For instance, if your player is capable of playback .m2ts files, you can choose "Copy"- "Directly Copy", and this option will keep the original quality of your BD content to full extent. If your device allows HD playback, and supports h.264 mp4 format, and then this one would be the correct selection for you. The rest can be done in the same manner.
Directly Copy:
H.264 HD Video .mp4:
Step 4: Set advanced settings
Please notice that this step is unavailable if you have chosen "Directly Copy" in Step 3. Click on "Settings" button, and then you will be able to adjust audio and video parameters including codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channels in the popup window as below. 5.1 channels are supported to keep the stunning surround sound of the BD movie.

Step 5: Click "Convert" button to start BD ripping
Once finished, the output files can be found out via clicking on "Open" button effortlessly, and then you can use your own ways to watch Blu-ray movies on your HDTV, such as connecting your PC to your HDTV via S-Video or HDMI cables, or adding them to your media players for playback on the HDTV, or whatever. Solutions to watch Blu-ray movies on Mac and WD TV

Not an easy thing for Mac users to play back Blu-ray movies, even they are your personal purchasing. I’ve summarized three ways that Mac users have usually used to playback Blu-ray movies as following. Frankly speaking, the former two solutions seems a little troublesome, personally, I prefer the last one.
Solution 1: With the help of AnyDVD HD via Windows:
Requirements:
- A Windows PC with a built-in Blu-ray drive or an external BD drive.
- AnyDVD HD
- A Mac: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac Pro
- Latest VLC media player or MPlayer
How-To:
1. Insert your Blu-ray disc to the BD drive, and run AnyDVD HD to remove copyright protections of your disc, no matter what kinds of protections your BD discs adopted, BD+, or AACS, AnyDVD HD is capable of dealing with them. Then you will get unprotected.m2ts files after the access of AnyDVD HD.
2. Copy the .m2ts files to an external drive or a USB stick, whatever, just let the Mac be able to read them.
3. Use the latest VLC media player or MPlayer to play unprotected .m2ts files.
Solution 2: Running Windows on Mac via Boot Camp
What you will need:
- A BD drive
- A Mac
- Blu-ray playback software on Windows, like Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 Ultra
How-To:
1. Install Boot Camp and Windows
I do not mention too much about this process, because Apple has already given the full direction about it here.
2. Connect BD drive with your computer, and Playback Blu-ray via PowerDVD 9 Ultra on the newly installed Windows OS.
Solution 3: Rip BD with Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac
What you will need:
- A BD drive
- Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac
This ripper provides directly copy function as well as HD video output option, so there is no need to worry about the output file quality of your Blu-ray movie.
The above two methods are all depending on the assistant of Windows, while the third one is not, thus I’d like to show the detailed operating steps about this one in detail.

Easy-to-use steps:
1. Load BD files through "DVD Folder" or "IFO File".
2. Select audio track from the pull down menu of "Audio", both Dolby TrueHD audio and DTS-HD Master Audio are supported.
3. Click the drop-down list of "Format" to select output format. Directly copy, HD video, iPhone, iPod, PS3, and many other devices and formats are all supported.
4. Click "Settings" button to adjust audio and video parameters like codec name, bit rate, aspect ration, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channels(5.1 channels is included).
5. Click "Browse" button to specify save path.
6. Click "Convert" button to start conversion.
Once the conversion is done, you are able to find out the output files via clicking "Open" button. If you choose directly copy, you can use VLC or MPlayer to play the output .m2ts files, if you converted to other usual formats, like mov, mp4, then you can use QuickTime player or whatever to play back them.
Via the Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac mentioned in solution 3, you can also absolutely realize playback BD movies on your HDTV with WD TV. Both WD TV Live HD Media Player and WD TV HD Media Player are all workable with .m2ts files, and they also support Full HD resolutions up to 1080P in common. In order to reserve the HD audio and video quality of your BD movie, you can completely select "Copy"> "Directly Copy" to just get the .m2ts files as the original as long as your USB device has enough space to store the output files. If not, you can also consider converting BD to a HD video format to save space as well as keep HD quality of the source file.

Well, hope the above contents are helpful.
