Have'nt got Vista, it was already installed on my laptop. If I get Vista and re-install it I suppose I will lose all my files and photo's, is this true?

The Vista upgrade messed up your existing set-up you need to do a Visa clean install. Most likely driver incompatibility problem.

I have a acerbic aspire one that won't load to the net or restore to factory settings

Hi:
Do the following exactly how it reads:

Updating the BIOS will require a USB flash drive to store the BIOS information on during the update. To perform the update to the BIOS:

1. Go here http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx and download the latest (check the latest date) BIOS for the netbook.

2. Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file.

3. In the Dos_Flash folder, rename the BIOS file from 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD, in all capital letters.

4. Copy ZG5IA32.FD and Flashit.exe to the USB flash drive

5. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in.

6. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.

7. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.

8. When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.

9. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.

10. During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.

11. Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service

You need to tell us make and model for your computer, so that we can find right drivers for your card.

My sound went of and it said no audio output device is installed

It seem like the drivers those you have are may not be updated or may be corrupted.
Download the latest drivers from the below website.
Then uninstall your old drivers from your laptop and reboot.
Then install the new audio drivers according to the Operating System that you are using (XP/ VISTA).
Again reboot your computer and it should work perfectly fine.

This is the website from where you can download the latest version of driver.
Hope this helps.

updates can be slow, and lead to more updates sometimes.you should goto windows update, let it search for important updates then install them.even if it takes a while, once you do that it should be fine.and configure updates to auto download but ask to install.

Screen flickers even on battery

Hello,

Have you updated your system BIOS with the latest download from Aspire?

This upgrade is particularly important if you have updated your Vista with service pack one or two (which may have been done automatically depending on your Windows update setting).

To upgrade your system BIOS download the latest version from the link below-
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html

simply run the file that is provided in the zipped form in order to update your system bios which should resolve this issue unless it is hardware related which is usually not the case on this laptop.

My Acer aspire 5100

If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
