If its the only game that you play then the disc could be getting worn out. It happens with most games that get overused. You will probably have to get a replacement.

Make sure you PS3 is connected to the internet so you can retrieve updates for the game. An update may have fixed this issue your describing.

you need to upgrade your hard disk

yeah i had to restart the whole stinking game because act one : end wouldn't load. not that i was that far into this game but it was a pain nonetheless. I don't know why this happened. I didn't use any cheats or anything like that. I think the "Metal Gear" franchise has gone downhill starting with "Snake Eater" for the PS2. It's sad because this series has so much promise but then all of a sudden Hideo Kojima started with all sorts of weird plots and way way to much dialogue.

thats because you need to press O. Metal Gear is notorious for being backwards from other games.

try turning off the tv it happened to me once

When you click on metal gear online this means that you have to connect to the internet.
Try connecting your ps3 with internet this may work

If i remember right Its a flashback...continue to play...it will go back to the main storyline

You should restart the system and try it again

This is what used to happen to me on my ps3 slim 160 GB when I put the disc in the screen goes black and int he top left corner I have a flashing disc, i updated the system to FW 4.00 and now the game works fine, i was previously running FW 3.73.
