Choose custom install instead of typical or full, that will give you the option of where you want to install it to.

I cant install xp on a fujitsu computer, after a few minutes it shuts down ?

there can be three reasons why you were unable to finish the xp setup process in your pc

1. first hardware detection failure, could be the hard drive itself that has the problem. Hard disk will of course need thorough formatting if you want to set up an xp os. And partition may be needed to if you want to divide the system from the data files. Faulty hard drive can ruin your set up process.

2. Windows SP cd installer. When this installer is corrupted, there is no way that you can actually setup successfully the windows operating system. If you have used the cd installer twice or utmost thrice then on its fourth it will not work. Files already will be missing on your installer.

3. DVD/CD ROM drive failure. Faulty drive can also affect the installation process. If the optical lens failed to read the disc then it will not install.

my guess its the hard drive.

let me know which one cause it.

I have a HP Pavilion Elite m 9357c that willnot boot up. The screen goes black and says Disk Boot Failure,Insert system Disk and press enter

If it happens that you are prompted by the following error message "DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER", "No system disk", it means that the computer did not find the operating system to start (boot).

Causes:

A diskette or CD has remained in the drive

Check out if any diskettes, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM are present in respective drives, remove them and restart your computer

The boot sequence is incorrect BIOS

Enter the BIOS setup of your computer and edit the boot (boot sequence) so that the computer starts primarily on drive C:
A new hard drive was installed

In the case that a new hard drive has been installed, this message is quite normal.
Just insert the correct CD to install the system (usually Windows), then restart, while making sure the CD-ROM is first in the defined in the BIOS setup as first boot sequence.
The hard drive is unplugged

Open the system unit and check that power cable of the hard drive is properly connected.
Corrupted system files

It may happens that some system files needed to boot the computer have been deleted /damaged or that the boot sector of the disc is damaged.

To determine this, start the computer with a system disk or CD-ROM installation of Windows (via the Recovery Console), and once started, type Dir C: to check if the contents of drive C: are accessible. If its ok then the problem comes from missing or damaged files, then you just have to run the command:

fdisk /mbr
sys c:

Note that before any restoration of the boot sector with the command fdisk / mbr, (supposing that there is a virus), it is recommended to use an antivirus running under DOS, such as
f-prot.

Damaged disk

If the hard disk or a partition is damaged:
If it detected in the BIOS setup, there is a chance that it is
not out of service.
If it is, try reinstalling the system through the installation CD, in order to reformat or recover the partition using a utility.

I have a latitude c610 and on start up a message saying media test failure check cable.can any one help.

Press F2 to go into the BIOS and reset it to factory defaults and reboot the laptop. If you still get the same message, go back into the BIOS and see if the hard drive is showing up in there, if it is then that means the OS has corrupt files and you would need to wipe out the drive and restore the laptop back to factory defaults.

If the BIOS doesn't show the hard drive in the BIOS then that means the hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

The COMPAQ splash screen displays, with F1-Setup and F10 system recovery option, but then displays 'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'. This is my sisters computer, and she says there...

You may be able to purchase a system disk from Compaq, otherwise, try any generic XP disk. It won't have any Compaq drivers, but at least you can reformat the C: drive and get XP on it.

System failure to boot

  1. Verify that your hard disk drive is setup and detected properly in BIOS. You're computer should list a hard disk drive installed either under the main page or the drives page in BIOS. If BIOS indicates the drive is not installed or not detected skip to Hard Disk drive is bad or not connected properly.
  2. Verify the boot options are properly set in BIOS, almost all BIOS setups should contain options specifying how your computer boots. For example, most computers should have their boot options setup similar to the below example.

    - Floppy drive
    - CD drive
    - Hard drive
  3. Rest your BIOS to default values. Many BIOS will enable users to reset the values to the default settings. If you've tried the above options without success try resetting the BIOS.

No go

If you can get into BIOS check your boot order.  Set you HDD to first, then CD, then floppy, remove network if listed.
