Webcam not Connected ( to your Messenger ) can usually be overcome by setting your Messenger Internet Connection
MESSENGER INTERNET CONNECTION
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'No proxies' or 'Connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes, If not change them > Apply > OK
I used to get this when I was on dial-up but never since going broadband - so the bandwidth may be fragile. You need to interrogate what is happening when the webcam is transmitting by opening the webcam menu on the webcam frame and click "statistics" Its best to transmit the "small" image and use the zoom 200% when established ( same as sending large photos by email ) - if I go for speed rather than quality on the slider I can achieve 5-6 frames per second ( small size) but I normally transmit about 1-2 f/s. I have my webcam under VFW (video for windows) control as I used to get freeze problems. This involves a registry change - detailed in Messenger help
You can tell when its under VFW control because VFW will be on the bottom of the Statistics box. You may need a little bit of software to make it work, if like me you do not have Directx on your pc - if so download the software featured here.
Dont worry about using the proxy server in "Connections" - Use it when you have to - I had to use it today to make my my webcam work - I also had to increase my virtual memory but that was as a result of error messages
first check wether you received a valid ip address for your local network. usually, this should be something like 192.168.x.y. if so, then you might indeed face a dns issue. dns is used to resolve web site names to ip address. usually, your ip service provider will broadcast the external dns servers for your router to recognize.
try to connect with a computer first. if it works, check the ip settings. if your computer also cannot connect without explicit dns server settings you can do one of the following: - explicit dns server address in ps3. go to "advanced internet connection settings", and then to "dns settings" and set the dns server address - purchase a 30$ network router and hook it between your internet and the ps3. in the router settings, set the dns server address to be broadcasted to the clients. you can use 188.8.131.52 and 2 which are dns servers in korea (i live in korea), but you might want to find the server near to your location or promoted by your isp
!st, let me explain the problem more clearer, then I'll explain the solution.
Problem) My camera worked fine. Even when logging on to Yahoo messenger, i could still veiw myself when chatting. But when I clicked on the "broadcast" button, the "idle" status would change to "connecting" for a few seconds. Then the the following message would pop up, " The server is busy, Please close this window & try again in a few minutes".
Solution) In Yahoo messenger, click on "Messenger", scroll down & click on "preferences". In Category:, click on "connection". Make sure that "no proxies" is selected.
