If it is a USB keyboard then no it does not matter which port you plug it into. If it is a standard keyboard then it must be plugged intothe same color coded on the back of the computer

Do i need a keyboard and a receiver for the mouse to work and if not how do i hook it up

Your wireless mouse and Keyboard work with the same wireless transmitter that is plug in into a USB port.of your computer. You can use the wireless mouse with that USB transmitter and dont use the wireless Keyboard. If you need a keyboard you can get one to be plug in into a USB port with the wire attach to the keyboard.

Which port is for keyboard & which for mouse Top for ? Bottom ? On the Inland OM1710

If you are talking about a PS/2 mouse and keyboard (round plug with 6 pins), the green port (top one if you have the computer sitting on its side) is for a mouse. The other one (could be orange) closest to the case is for the keyboard.
If you are talking about USB ports, it doesn't matter at all.

I've tried the keyboard on another computer and it does work... i've also tried plugging it in to other usb ports. it still doesn't work. I know the usb ports work, because I even plugged it into the one...

may be it help.
after you plug in your keyboard.
open device manager.
delete your logitech keyboard driver! dont worry it will reinstall automatic after you refresh device manager..
that way will change the corrupted files.

Ctrl keys dont work, bought new key board and have same problem, have windows XP

First rule out drivers
- remove the keyboard driver and instruct windows to reinstall the driver

Next check for hardware issues
1. Plug this keyboard into another PC to see if the same problem persists
2. If the problem does occur it is the keyboard (get a new one if that is the case)
3. If the problem does occur then it is not the keyboard it is the port that u are plugging it into.

IS IT USB?
4. If it is a USB Keyboard, plug it into another USB port
5. If the problem persists on all USB ports on the system board, then the problem is the USB ports only IFF the keyboard works fine on another system in other USB ports

Is it PS/2?
If it is not a USB keyboard and it is a PS/2 board, again, and it works fine on another PC, then you have a defective PS/2 port on the system board.

Solution
Get a PCI card with USB ports and install it. Plug ur keyboard into that.

The mouse works but when we type on the keyboard, nothing happens

Hi. Well you didn tell what kind of keyboard are you using. Is it a USB or a wireless. I am assuming that it is a USB keyboard.
  1. 1st of all check whether the key board is properly plugged in2 your machine properly, check for loose connections.
  2. Check whether you have plugged it into the correct port, because usually the the internet keyboard do not adapt to the USB port, and a PS/2 to US adapter port wont work.
  3. Download and install the latest Keyboard Software
  4. Before installing the new driver dont forget to uninstall the previous one, install the new one and reboot.

Keyboard Faulty

Assuming that you installed the CD software and plugged the receiver into the USB port.
Try this:
Normal 0 Press the Receiver button (and the lights will start flashing.
Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the receiver.

If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they should work okay.
Hope this helps. Bud

Cmos checksum error - defaults loaded

Ports are usually labelled - look carefully.
Try manufacturers manual.
Could be that keyboard is the larger 5 pin DIN socket (old IBM AT keyboard).
